    The Best of Nineties Marvel.

What were your favourite titles from Marvel during the ninties? For me, there was quite a bit of stuff I didn't much care for being flooded into the market by the house of ideas, but every now and then you had your gems.

My favourites were Peter David's Hulk and X-Factor. Mark Waid's Captain America. Warren Ellis' short runs on Thor, Druid, and Doom 2099. Kurt Busiek on Untold Tales of Spiderman. Let's not forget Marvels by Busiek and Alex Ross.

    Hmmmm....

This is ironic... on another site they've started a thread about what was the WORST book from the 90's glut.

Most of what Marvel did during the 90's was shody Image rips; but I can think of two that I liked.

-Damage Control. (I THINK it was 90's...)

-Peter David's X-Factor. For the 8 or so months it lasted.

Other then the Thanos Quest/Infinity Gauntlet miniseries there wasn't much worth reading IMO....
          "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"

In the Southeast Pacific, lies the sunken city of R'Leyh. There lies C'thulhu waits to return to our world with the other Great Old Ones. A hideous creature of enormous size and alien power, it waits for it's time to return patiently. For it has all the time in the world while it waits for the stars.

Byrne's run on Wolverine and Namor. If those were both 90's books. The early 90's was when i hung it up on the X books after 10 plus years of following them.

Hmmmm.....lemme try and remember the good stuff that was bogged down by all of the crap....

              - Peter David's Hulk
              - Todd McFarlane's adjectiveless Spider-Man
              - Jim Lee's X-Men
              - Marvels
              - Infinity Gauntlet (both not the rest of the "Infinity" saga)

I'm sure there's more but I think the 90s is when I lost a LOT of interest in Marvel...

I'm a fan of Dwayne McDuffie's writing and as much as I love Damage Control, I think that was the eighties (1989, the tail end). By the "glut" period of the nineties we are talking about, McDuffie had moved over to an association with DC and was spearheading Milestone Media, where he created Static.

I wonder whatever happened to the Damage Control movie that they had in development.

You know what? I think McDuffie might have been writing Deathlok in the early nineties prior to Milestone.

Hmmmm.... I thought so; but there were three series', and the second was part of the "Acts of Vengeance" storyline. (Sort of.) I thought that was 90 or 91.

Gotta see if I can find those... it's bugging me now.

I didn't realize there was more than one mini! I'll have to check out the other two.

I think Acts of Vengeance was definitely nineties, I recall Byrne's West Coast Avengers being part of that crossover (was it the Dark Wanda storyline?).

The second one is part of the "Acts of Vengeance" storyline. (The scene with the Punisher is THE BEST!) The second features the making of "Damage Control: The Movie."

I agree on that totally (being the sick Hulk fan I am)
I think Image had some fabulous moments too!
The Savage Dragon and Spawn were pretty darned good too!

DC had some great Kelley Jones stories Deadman and Batman, Swamp Things runs were awesome too! How could I forget "The Demon" in the 90's
The Death of Superman was off the hook as well!

I recently just re-read the Night of the Living Dead painted comics from the 90's and "NOTLD England" by Clive Barker and I think that was pretty awesome too! There was alot of good stuff going on but it was coated with crap that we as comic book readers really didn't need. All in all comics were really weird in the 90's and you had to look for something awesome. Oh I almost forgot "The Crow" by James O'Barr, and "Captain Stern" by Bernie Wrightson.
