View Full Version : Worst actor who is successful?

I think the worst (and luckiest) actor I have ever seen is David Caruseau from CSI Miami. That guy has a great part but sucks at acting. An honorable mention is Keneau Reeves. To me the only good acting job he ever did was the matrix.
Other suck actors who make a lot are:
Mickey Rorke
The Olson twins
Jessica simpson ( the girl can't act or sing)
I'm sure there are a lot more. Anyone else think of anyone else?

Great picks (other than Rourke)

Keanu Reeves.. he's a surfer dude not matter what movie he's in
Ashton Kutcher gets a mention too
Rourke played a great Chinaski, and I liked Angel Heart too.
Christian Slater, Keanu Reeves, Sharon Stone, Richard Gere and Tom Cruise, off the top of my head.

Wow quite the list I can agree on a couple but Keanu is good and so is Rourke(his best work by far was "a prayer for the dying" and "harley davidson and the marlboro man".
Crap actors who made it
Ashton kutcher
Nicholas cage
wesley snipes
martin sheen bores the crap out of me!!!
And david Caruso is our generations William shatner...Overactor supreme but thats his style. No I'm not a caruso fan but I don't mind him.

Wil Smith(I know I'll catch hell for that one)
Thats the 1st Person I thought of,.. when I read the Thread, Because he is the Highest Paid that Fits the Topic.
.... However with his 2 Recent Movies that I saw,.. I Robot & I am Legend,.. I think the Guy Finally proved he can act a Bit,.. Or Atleast Finally in my eye's to me his Performances seemed Believable to the extent that I bought what they were trying to sell in the Movie.
I also Don't get Mike Myers,... Nore Have I ever thought He was "Funny" to where his ideas & performances deserve what the Guy Gets Paid. :googly:

I don't think Tom Cruise is a bad actor...he just gets a lot of hate because he's such a high profile star and stars in a lot of overblown Hollywood flick...plus his religion doesn't help...and he acts loony in public all the time.
But re-watch Born on the Fourth of July, Rain Man, and Jerry Maguire...he's terrific in all those.

I also disagree on Mickey Rourke...I think he's a good actor...the problem with him is that he's disfigured by all that plastic surgery...and he comes across as spooky now.
I agree on Keanu Reeves though...horrible actor.

I love Caruso's over-the-top delivery. I like Cruise and Rourke as actors, and I agree with Hector that the rap on them is more Cruise's scientology and Rourke's freak face. I think an oak log has more range than Reeves. Will Smith and Nick Cage are hit and miss for me.
I'll add:
Anyone who used to be a professional wrestler
Gary Sinese on CSI: NY
The woman on Law & Order SVU
Hayden Christiansen

Mickey Rourke is an incredibly talented actor.
His first big role in Body Heat was a scene stealer.
His work in Diner was excellent. Pope Of Greenwich Village, outstanding. His performance in Barfly was stellar.
Even Angel Heart had it's moments.
More recently, his turn as Marv in Sin City stole the film.
Very talented guy. Perhaps made a few misteps in his personal life, but that does not discount the quality of his work.

Yeah,.. I dunno,.. you ever see that Movie "Running Scared" ? Not to be confused with the Billy Crystal One. It's Pretty powerful,.. & Walker really delivers imo. Probably the only Movie he's been in thats worth a Damn too.
I'll repeat my number one rule of movie watching that hasn't failed me in a long time.
Never, EVER, pay to see Keanu Reeves. Nuff said.

I feel that most actors who are successful become so by playing the same character over and over. Case in point, Jack Nicholson. You watch Jack's early work(and even the occasional part to this day) and you'll see some brilliance. Unfortunately around the time of The Shining, Jack was typecast as "Jack Nicholson." After repeating themselves ad nauseum they become bloated chariactures of their own character which often times comes across as scene chewing Shatner-isms. Tom Cruise is another actor to suffer from this. Occasionally you see brilliance(Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry McGuire), but mostly he's playing Tom Cruise. Then you have guys who are charismatic but not necessarily good actors. This is where I file Will Smith. Then there are the truly talentless schmucks.
(as per the title thread, I tried to stick with actors. A bad actress is a far more complex thing. I love looking at Jessica Alba. I just hate watching her.)
1. Any member of the Martin Sheen family other than Martin Sheen. I am completely befuddled how Charlie Sheen manages to get roles in anything.
2. Keanu Reeves. He has a real screen absence.
3. Ben Affleck. Seems like a good guy. Someone you might wanna hang out with in hopes that some of the women he nails might fall your way. But he's so bad of an actor that even potentially good films turn to **** in his presence. Gone, baby, gone shows that maybe he's better suited behind the camera.
3. Hugh Grant. How many times can he play Hugh Grant? Which would be fine if Hugh Grant weren't the most effette weenie on the planet.
4. Vin Diesel. Pitch Black was cool. Vin Diesel is not
5. John Travolta. I wanna like Travolta. He was Pulp Fiction for God's sake. But I can't think of one other film that he was so much as watchable in.
6. Nicholas Cage. Once upon a time, Nicholas Cage starred in a film called Raising Arizona. It was the only good performance of his entire carreer.
7. Orlando Bloom. Yeah he was in 3 of the best movies ever made(and I ain't talking about Pirates of the Carribean films), but the dude is really bad. I almost doze off as soon as he begins to speak. There is a reason Peter Jackson only gave him about 5 lines in approximately 30 hours of film.
8. Ashton Kutcher. I cannot for the life of me figure this out. How is this guy known for anything? ***? Totally talentless.
9. Hayden Christiansen/Jake Loyd. Thanks, George. Thanks alot.
10. James McAvoy. The shortness of Tom Cruise without the high-wattage Top Gun-era charisma.
11. Al Pacino. At one time, Al Pacino was easily at the top when it came to talented actors. Then somwhere around the time of Scent of a Woman Al became convinced he was an elderly African american gentleman from the south. Ain't never been the same since.
12. Charlton Heston. I'm not kidding. Has a reputation as a great actor by seemingly adding an overblown pomposity to everything he delivered. In reality, this guy chewed the scenery in ways that even Shatner would be jealous.
Dishonorable mentions;
Any rapper. Ice Cube? Eminem?
Any singer. Whether it's Striesand or Mariah Carey the result is the same. Crap.
Any athlete. See Rodman, Dennis; O'Neal, Shaquille
Any Martial Artist. Except Bruce Lee. He was just bad ***.
Any wrestler. But The Rock gets a pass...just for being The Rock.
Any Baldwin. Alec gets a free pass for 30 Rock and that's it.

I think what a lot of the actors mentioned above have in common, is that they mainly play one character, and that gets old after a while.
There's no diversity.
Btw, for his work in the last 10 years, I'd like to include Robert DeNiro.
Sorry, Bob, you're just NOT funny....
Go back to serious drama. Go hunt some deer....

Shia Lebeuf
Ben Affleck
Adam Sandler
Shia seems to be loved by the power structure in Hollywood -- Steven Spielberg believes he's the next big thing. I don't get it.
B-Fleck is simply the luckiest guy in the industry. From Rob Reiner helping him and Matt Damon out to start to tanking so many movies and somehow still being considered a star, he's taken very average ability way far.
Sandler is fairly funny at times. In small doses. But again, I don't get the huge success.

The worst thing to happen to any of us. This waste of breathable air poisons the minds of anyone who happen to watch more than one minute of his garbage spewing "movies"!!!! He is the cause of the downfall of modern society, as we know it today.
