View Full Version : Midnightmen Action Figures
Just wanted to share some pics of a new line of action figures that I'm developing for an online comic book called Midnightmen. These are the deco masters, not the final production pieces.

Interesting indeed!
If you dont mind my asking, who's making them for you, and when are they coming out?

I'm using Day2day Toys (http://www.day2daytrading.com/index.html) to handle the production in China. As far as a release date goes I haven't set one yet because there are still some details being worked out with the comic book.
Thanks for the positive comments everybody. So far the people I've shown these to have all been impressed so hopefully that's a good sign. :)

Truly cool stuff. Those figures just have a great vibe, to them that draws one in...Just like toys from the good old days.
Is the Midnightmen comic available for viewing now?
(How are Day2day like to deal with on these projects?)
Sorry...I'll stop asking questions for a while now.

That's exactly what I was going for so I'm glad to hear you say that. I wanted them to be a mixture of both vintage and modern designs.

The comic is still being worked on so unfortunately it's not available for viewing yet.
So far Day2day Toys has been great to deal with.
Ask as many questions as you want, I don't mind at all. :)

Did some snooping and stumbled on a blog site that was pitching this concept as a cartoon....Fantastic stuff, with tons of characters. I'm hoping they all made the transition to the comic project.....and to toys?
This and the Commander X project are both fantastic....These are the kinds of things I keep hoping to see go to the mainstream toy stores.

Just to be sure you found the right blog site here's a direct link: Midnightmen (http://midnightmen.blogspot.com/)
We had a really difficult time finding an artist who would stay committed to the project but luckily we finally did. So far everything is going really well and I'll be sure to post updates as I get them.
Who knows, if all goes well there might be MEGO scale Midnightmen men figures and 3 3/4" Captain X figures at some point in time.

I LOVE THIS!
cant wait to see the comic!
Really beautiful!
Congratulations on a wonderful project!
I'm getting ready to work on the card art for these figures and wanted to get some opinions on what style to use. The choices I'm considering are either the classic G.I. Joe style card art from the 80's, or a much more detailed Alex Ross style. I'm leaning more toward the Alex Ross style but the price is almost double of what it would cost for the classic Joe style.

Thanks! Sorry to say but aside from the toys I'm not involved with the comic book at all so I really can't answer your question. I'll be happy to pass it along though. :)

I think a GI Joe style card (complete with bios on the back) would be cool for these figures.....Do you have any mockups of either we could see?

That's the style I've decided to use and the cards will have some type of bios on the back. The card art is being worked on now so as soon as I have some mockups I'll be sure to post them here.

Wow, what a fun project to follow! I look forward to seeing the cards and then the finished product.

The painted prototypes and the tooling masters are on their way to China now and according to my factory contact production should be able to start immediately after the package is received.

Here's the latest update I got from the factory, a picture of the tooling sample for the Dax Northender figure. According to my factory contact everything is going well with production so hopefully the final product will be available fairly soon.

What does this cost if you don't mind me asking?
What does this cost if you don't mind me asking?
I'd rather not give an exact amount but it's very expensive to fund a project like this. The tooling alone was $15K and that's just a small portion of the total cost.

All of that is still being worked on and should be ready by the time the figures are released, or possibly a little sooner.

I wish this could be a positive update but unfortunately it's more of cry for help. Third Floor Productions, the company that's doing the comic book, just told me that their artist quit without any explanation which has thrown a major monkey wrench in the works. If there's anybody here who has the chops to do the work and wants to give it a shot, or knows somebody who can, please contact me and I'll put you in touch with the comic book people. This is a paying gig and we're completely aware that quality work doesn't come cheap.

Epic Comics was the mature/creator owned imprint of Marvel in the eighties and nineties.
It was by the Legendary Howard Chaykin (American Flagg, The Shadow)

It's being done by Go Hero (http://www.gohero.com). They've got a lot of cool stuff in the works. The 1/6 scale Cyclops they're doing from Wrath Of The Titans is huge!

so, now that you are dabbling in the Mego-like field any chance of MidnightMen in that format?
Yes, that's a definite possibility. I've already discussed it with the comic book company and they think it's a great idea.

I don''t normally check this discussion board but for some reason I did today.
I'm glad I did.
This thread caught my attention. "The Midnight Men" is a very interesting project and the pictures of the planned action figures look very good.
Looking forward to seeing more of the figures as your project continues. You
are off to a promising start. I'm very interested in the figures so I will keep checking back.

I saw! What REALLY caught my eye was the 1/6 scale Perseus. Man, what an awesome figure! Metal sword and Bubo! Wow!
KUDOS on the Buck Rogers deal, I'll be buying a set when they come out.
I really like the MM figs as well!
Plus, the offer for the writer still stands if you need one! :yeah:

I've already got the head sculpts completed so at least that much is done. Once the Buck Rogers figures are finished I'm hoping to get the ball rolling much faster on these and a few other properties.
