View Full Version : Hurricane Ike

Hurricane Ike has destroyed my house. We tried to rescue as much as we could (memories, valuables) but we are still in shock. About 70 % of our shingles on our house were blown off and the rain just came in. Our second floor ceilings collapsed and our first floor is getting a lot of water. Right now I'm going to another hotel today and have to wait until tomorrow to deal with the insurance company. I really fear my house can't be fixed. Like I said, right now I'm stunned.

Hiya Coach,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. You have a supportive community here. It sounds as if your family was not hurt and that is a good thing. We are down the road in Elgin if you get tired of hotels or need a friendly face.

Thanks for all the kind words and offers for help. Reading the posts from you, my friends was the first time I cried during this ordeal. I love you guys and words can't express how the posts and pms made me feel. We got a storage unit today and salvaged a lot. I was able to save about half my megos. My freakin original Romulan's head turned brown and his suit fell apart in the water. Now that ****ed me. Luckily it's replacable, my family is not so it's ok. I'll keep you guys updated. Keep us in your thoughts and if you are spiritual pray for a fast resolution for us.

Damn man...that's awful...I'm so sorry to hear this.

You and I have had a little bit of friction lately...but let's put aside our differences for now...I'm really saddened that your home is in such damaged condition...I would be devastated if that had happened to my house.

I hope everything goes well with your insurance company...keep us posted.

Wow Coach --- I am so sorry to hear your loss... I am glad your family is safe. We had a lot of destruction in our neighborhood also. We were very lucky at our house as we only had minor damage and tree loss. We just got our power back on. It's been a HECK of a storm and some hard few days.... Take care...

So sorry to hear about your loss. For those of us who have never experienced anything to devastating, it is impossible to put ourselves in your shoes. Be assured that everyone here hopes that things work out smoothly and quickly. Life will certainly be difficult for you until things return back to normal. Best of luck to you and your family.

John,

I hope this all works out for you guys, soon. You know, when I heard that Ike was headed your way, somehow, I figured all would be all right with you, at least. I guess you always figure it will be someone else. This time it's not and it really I hope you guys really come through this all right. Fortunately, you're all physically ok.

I'll look forward to an update. Take good care.

John,
I am deeply sorry about you and your families loss. I can't imagine having to actually have it happen. Came close before with a fire about 6 years ago. We had NO insurance at that time. One of the reasons I stress people to get some kind of insurance. You just never know. Can't replace memories, but can help make new ones.
We have had some flooding up here! We got about 5 inches, other areas more and less.
Hope things work out quickly for you. Best wishes.

Today we tried to get some of the ceiling out of the house. We got about 12 garbage bags full out. We also hired someone to put up a tarp on our beat up roof. This has been a very trying time and coming here is my refuge. FEMA has put us up in a hotel and school does not start until Monday.Much of my SW stuff didsurvive. A lot got wet but I a loose collector so it's no big deal.
