hello all...
I was recently given a set of 4 solid boxed monsters in a collection I bought...Mummy, Drac, Frank and Wolf...they are still in the plastic interior bag, and boxes are in nice shape... are these common?, scarce?, at all in demand/value?
just curious, I don't really collect the monster line, so I am not very well versed...any help/suggestions are appreciated...
thanks
rick

While these are not necessarily rare, the ones pictured seem to be in pretty good shape. The lack of the inserts you find in superhero boxes allow for these to be more easily bent or crushed. Also, certain ones are a little more valuable than others. The Mummy seems to pop up pretty often.
If you decide to sell them, you could get a some money, but you're not going to put your kids through college.

thanks bill...I would say the boxes are c9+ to c9.5...the mummy, funny enough, is the c9, with the other 3, just about perfect!

Oh, one quick thing- check the hair color on Dracula and Frank. If Drac is red and Frank's is blue, well then that increases the prices significantly.

actually, I did that when I went to the MM gallery...both the "common" black

The boxes look to be in fantastic shape. I'd say they would go for a pretty penny as a set.

Those boxes look great. Individual value/scarcity from most to least seems to be: 1. Dracula, 2. Wolfman, 3. Frankenstein, 4. Mummy
Are any of them on T2 bodies? Those are quite a bit rarer in this packaging, although that doesn't necessarily mean they are worth that much more. It would depend on the potential buyer, some would put a premium on a T2 body, some wouldn't care that much either way.

Nice set Rick. I still need 2 of them in these boxes.

thanks folks... I also picked up 20 MIB WGSH...about 10 will be upgrades for me, and 2 or 3 are box variants I need, but I will have 13-15 for sale soon (my undercopies)...I am good at buying megos, but not good at knowing what to sell them for, so I like to put on ebay at 99 cent starting bid, and let folks decide their worth...

I'd like to purchase the entire set. Did you have a price in mind?

no price at all...I have gotten several inquiries and offers on them, but for now, haven't decided...my instinct is I am a Super Hero collector, but these are kind of neat

holy cow batman, I just saw a Frank go for over $200 in a not near as nice box, and a mummy, with 12 minutes left, is pusing $160... I think maybe I will sell this set now, as I suspect my set would command a premium to these prices?

that's the great thing about ebay...you can start anything that is remotely worth anything at .01 and people will determine the price for you. better than any price guide. I hear you...I got offers from $50 to $150+ for singles...but ,if lessor conditioned figures push $200+, sounds like I did ok with set...I guess I will put on ebay unless someone wants to PM or email me (newforcecomcis6@aol.com) and make a comparable offer
thanks

I was watching that auction, yikes. $203 is quite high considering the condition of the box. I've passed up several in similar condition for about half that price over the past several years. The repros hurt these a bit but maybe they're bouncing back? I hope that doesn't happen until I complete my set. :smiley1:

naturally, I have never paid attention to pricing (which is why I asked you guys!), but I have been watching recently, to get a guage...multiple folks bid $200+ to realize those prices, so maybe strike while the iron is hot...
so, my next ?, should I sell/auction individually, or as a set of 4?

It looks like two bidders took the bids out of a slightly more normal range of $130-150 and pushed the final price over $200 in each auction (and one of those bidders is the same in both). So it's hard to say if your auctions could do that, but having really nice boxes will certainly help. I'd sell them separately, you usually would get a higher total price that way. Some people might only need one or two and will be more likely to bid that way (like me ;) ). Also, if you stagger them by about 5 or 10 minutes, someone who won one might bid higher than he normally would on one or more remaining auctions, especially if you offer combined shipping, or the bidder wants to get two or more of these in high grade boxes like yours. So go separate. :)
