No, you aren't, but I don't think they're aimed at us.

I've been tempted to pick up a Supergirl, but I think I'll wait and hope they show up at a discount. I'm embarrassed to admit I kind of like that Krypton outfit they have for her.

Tonner made a limited edition Superman and 50s-style Lois Lane in 1998 that were originally $500 each, and they're pretty much the same style as the new ones (actually, maybe even creepier). His Superman is definitely one of the weirdest interpretations I've ever seen. He looks like a fashion illustration.

They show up on eBay now and then and I've never seen them sell for anywhere near the original price.

Although I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan I think the Quidditch Malfoy Tonner Doll looks pretty good. But I certainly wouldn't pay the pricetag of $159.00.

If only it were that easy and you could go there and walk away with as many as you wanted to buy. However...

Mattel plays this very annoying game of how they sell their exclusives thru the cunning use of raffle tickets. Here's how it works. The Convention opens at 10:00 am. You have to go to their booth between 10:00am and 1:00pm and they give you a raffle ticket. They only alot so many exclusives for sale each day, say 5000.

At 2:00pm they draw a raffle ticket and let's say it's number 15000. That's the starting number and they are alotting 5000 to be sold. So the raffle ticket range is 15000 to 20000. If your raffle ticket falls within that range...congratulations you get to buy ONE. If your raffle ticket is 14999 or lower or 20001 or higher, you have to go back the next day and try again with a new raffle ticket.

Sometimes you might get lucky and get in the raffle ticket range on the first day of the con. Even though you've already been able to buy one the first day, you can still go back on the other days and try again. That's the only way you can get multiples if you just happen to be lucky enough to fall into the ticket range every day.

The only exception to this is sometimes on the last day of the convention, they will forego the raffle ticket range if they still have a lot of leftovers. Then you can walk up and purchase directly. On rare occassions, they've even allowed you to purchase more than one depending on how many they have left over. Their system can be very frustrating.

Exclusives are easier to get there. It's a smaller convention in Chicago. Wizard World now boasts having the largest attendance in the country, but that's a combined number between LA, Texas, Philly & Chicago (125,000 between the 4 events).

San Diego has the largest attendance at one event which was 123,000 last year all by itself. So unfortunately there's more competition to get exclusives.

From the web:

Wizard World conventions attracted more than 125,000 attendees in 2005, making it the largest pop-culture event series in the country. Wizard currently hosts four annual conventions in Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Texas. These are among the largest comic book conventions in the United States, with Wizard World Chicago in second place behind Comic-Con International in San Diego for overall attendance at a single event.
