I just saw on the Diamond website that Emce is releasing a retro bridge playset early 2009! I thought everyone should know. Doc you are a sneaky guy. I hope this is news and not everyone knew about this.

$60 bucks for a new one or less than half for an original. Already got my original one, slightly damaged and missing the furniture.

I had heard they weren't going to do the transporter. Well, that's nice, but I wish it would be possible to buy inexpensive loose transporter units...or extra stools...Generally, I don't understand why they wouldn't update the artwork. Make the case, but kill the rainbow walls. That's not retro, it's just wrong.

The link in your post to diamond says they are going to have the transporter???? Fact is they said they were going to have all the original Plus up grades. So I'm curious what the up grades are?

Right-o. Originally we got word here (?) that a transporter was not going to be a part of the set. But now it is.

As far as I know, this is not an EMCE product. Diamond took it on their own, the website mentions Art Asylum.

Action Martin
Aug 13, '08, 5:45 PM
Art Asylum is mentioned on the second page. But the first page does state Emcee.

"Fans of the Star Trek Retro Cloth Figure line and devoted worshippers of all things yesteryear, pay attention! Re-released for the first time since the 70's, DST and Emcee Toys will be bringing the Retro Star Trek Bridge Playset to stores early next year!"

I agree... in today's day and age if I didn't already have an original Mego Trek Bridge I don't think I'd rush out to buy this repro...in fact, I'd rather pony up the extra dough and get a better looking/more accurate one from Dida Displays. :wink_y:

I talk to Paul months ago about the playset, wasn't sure Diamond was going to go for it , I told him offer a figure with it.
and he said I want save tooling, than offer a kirk with the 3 scratches on his face from "the enemy within",Joking of course.

$60 for a new playset untouched VS. if your luckey for less then $60 for a 30 year old set that is used with damage, playwear etc...

It is no brainer, for me, the new one would win every time.

I was hoping that if they did do a playset, they would incorporate the AA captains chair, and do an accurate helm console and chairs.

Could they AT LEAST make some decent Bridge chairs..? I'd still prefer the glorious Dida Display line, but 'least we'd have some decent-looking Bridge chairs instead of the cheap piano stools... Let's hope it's one of the upgrades.

So, it looks like my EMCE figures are going to be displayed in a "Retro" Bridge instead.

Trust me sir, when you see one of these sets live and in person, $150.00 doesnt seem like all that much. For all the hard work that had to go into putting these together I'm surprised Scott doesnt charge more. The guy must have thumbs like the Hulk by now....unfortunately, it's the Red Hulk...but I bet he can still lift a car with them!!

The new bridge was not made by my factory. We were involved in the conception and
I showed the guys at DST Scott's Enterprise playset (it's so amazing you can't just call it the "bridge") but there can be a lot of changes between conception and delivery.

I appreciate them giving EMCE credit. I hope the finished product does everyone proud and pleases the customers.

hello all...
FOB is a Freight On Board... it means I buy directly from the factory in HK, and cut out the distribution costs associated with DST bringing the freight into the US... I get a better cost, so hopefully I can offer cheaper than most can...but, to get FOB, you have to order a large quantity, so it really just becomes a #'s game... can my FF (freight forwarder) get me the stock cheaper than DST can... that is what we are working on now...

I have had a pretty nice Bridge for YEARS and sold off my beater about a year ago. I have to admit if I didn't have a vintage one I would be tempted to get it for child hood nostalgia but at the prince plus hsipping (I would guess an additional $20 US based on it's size alone) I would have to really go DIDA since they are so nice

Gotta be frank here I have not bought the entire EMCE / retro line and this is one I will skip due the reasons listed above;

have an original mego that I cobbled together years ago (not as new in box and the vinyl has been repaired but transporter works well). So dida appeals to me more

Shipping is very expensive for large or heavy items.

so unless the extras are just KICK A** I'll pass

I may have said this a few times, but the Animated Series really rocks..! I'm watching 'Beyond the Farthest Star' again now (at work..), just excellent, excellent Trek.

It may not be Diamond's choice when the playsets get on a boat.

This is peak manufacturing and shipping season in China - and all
the new regulations that just went into effect - are probably causing
havoc at the docks, which is exactly why I took a breather on new
production.

Congress passed a lot of new legislation last year just before the
elections and no one has worked out the details yet. These new
regs don't just affect toys - they involve all PVCs - polyvinyl cholrides -
which is what the heads are made of. I am not even ordering new
bodies until the dust settles.

I hope to find out more in June when I am in China. We will be staying
outside of Hong Kong so I plan on having lunch with my guy there - and
write the new baby as a business expense!

It's great that these playsets are coming out, but I really think that overall, an opportunity was missed to get the general toy buying public into the retro Mego figures and playset. For us collectors who keep up on when something is released and who (in most cases online) has it, it really hasn't been a problem getting what we need. The only problem for us is patience. As for the average store goer, it's probably a little off-putting seing just two or three characters on the racks and wondering where the rest of the gang is. When these playsets arrive, will they be positioned (speaking mostly about brick and mortar shops) next to the crew? Somehow, the idea of buying a whole playset just to give Sulu and the Gorn a place to chill out doesn't seem that appealing.

As I said, we collectors know what's coming out and when. We WILL fill up that bridge. But for the casual store browsing toy/Star Trek fan the deal may be harder to close.

NewForce
Apr 24, '09, 10:36 AM
i'm sure you will be able to find them everywhere. I have seen tons of sites selling them..
I agree...there are plenty of places that will have, and no doubt everyone that wants one will easily be able to find....my only point is we are all selling the same item as everyone else, but we presold out , so if we are indeed getting extras and folks haven't yet preordered from somewhere, why not buy from the place that offers it the cheapest

I'd add Toys R Us to that; I saw a couple of Kirk/Spock Diamond Select 7 inch Art Asylum-type figure sets there just a few days ago. On the back of the packages were other DS product, including the EMCE retro figures (I think Uhura and Mugato are pictured).

I guess it's good they're getting some exposure in a huge chain like TRU, even if it's only a picture.

NewForce
Apr 25, '09, 7:26 AM
my feeling is that these days, with the internet, chat boards, ebay, etc...even the most casual collector knows about the retro re-releases... sure, without "big box" exposure, one is not going to attract the "impulse/non collector" base, or the kid that wants to play Star Trek (like I did when I was 9), but that is really not to whom these figures are produced anyway...

How it usually works with Rick is when he receives the shipment and starts processing pre-orders, he'll open up the item again to in-stock ordering. He always orders extra just in case, and that's what ends up as in-stock.

correct folks...I have extras ordered , but until I physically get them in stock (like today, I was short some cases), I have to leave that "buffer" in place.... the set looks great, and it is very heavy! (heavier than I remember it)...

trying to get my shipping PRO # on my "main" shipment and once they are physically in my warehouse, I will release all reserve stock so folks can order...according to my presales vs order, I should have 76 available sets...but, that number is usually off a wee bit, but should be no problem as long as I am not short cases on main delivery...

also, a note, looks like 2800 were produced domestically, and 1200 int, so about 4000 sets made (just an estimate)

we are going to start shipping tomorrow...we are hopefully finishing up the last of 22 pallets of Playmates Movie product today (we start at 4am and go until almost 10pm at night, so sometimes not enough hours in the day)...
so, figure start on Friday and finish shipping the playsets Monday (weekend to catch up)...so, depending on distance from FL, depends on "when" but the closer you are, the sooner you get (Ga is 1 day, Cal is 5 days, etc)

Well these beautiful sets showed up in Oregon yesterday at Things From Another World. The Milwaukee store received two units - both now gone and the Sandy Blvd. shop received at least three - as of 2pm today they still had two. Out of the box this playset is amazing. Such a faithful reproduction - it makes me wish little kids had access to these at their Toys R Us. The console and chairs are now gray and the transporter gimmick works pretty good. Nice thick cardboard box - a heavy set. At least I felt I was getting my money's worth. The sets were $60 each so if you can wait Rick has the better deal but my brothers and I are so impatient when it comes to this stuff. Had to have it NOW! Things From Another World is a pretty neat shop so have a look around if you're out that way. It's nice to still have them while the economy permits.

I got an old bridge. I use it for a room to a homemade Justice League Satellite play set I created with my daughter that is connected to the Hall of Justice. Maybe I'll drop some cash for a new one to add another level to the Satellite. :)

@New Force, that picture is amazing! If I scrounge some extra cash together I might take advantage of your "opener" special, that is a great price!

Saw these at my local comic shop today. Picked up the final four Trek figures for 20% off but did not have enough for this. Wish I could buy just the inside pieces as I still have an original case on display.

I scored a great deal today, my local comic book store was having their annual free comic book day sale. 1/2 off most back issue comics and 40% off their toys, So I got the bridge for 36.00. and several figures for 9.50 each. The owner said aw man, you're getting them for less then I paid. Unsure how true that was, but hey, I was pretty excited, I mean he could have hid them in the back or jacked up the pre sale price, so I got lucky. Unusual for me.

I got the card in the mail mon and remembered I got the ctv munsters there cheap, one year, so I took a chance they'd have some trek emce stuff and that it would be part of the sale. I hadn't been there in a while so it was really just a lucky thing. To my surprise they weren't excluded so I said, "wow!" I called up my nephew who believe it or not is only a couple years younger than I and is also mego maniac and got him one too! So I guess the owner is going ouch! on that one. Usually whatever breaks I get are from falling so I'll take this one! It was kinda worth the wait. What did it originally go for in the 70's? 15-20 bucks, money wise back then it was a really big deal at 7 or 8.

I already have one, but I be interested to see if if it has black stools and a yellow console, or the whole turquoise set up the gift set had.

BTW...that is an AWESOME picture! I'm glad to see EMCE kept the original box design.

Mine should be arriving tomorrow according to UPS. I bought an opener so my kids could have a bridge to use with their EMCE figures. I have my original Mego bridge with all turquoise accessories that has been retired to the realm of display only ;)

Lol. Doesn't happen too often! I am indeed in Canada(aka The Forbidden Zone:wink_y:) I ordered from Legends Action Figures in Montreal. I have ordered from New Force in the past but I figured, with the size of this particular piece, shipping would be cheaper from within Canada...and it was. I am in Hamilton which is about 45 minutes from Mississauga.
I'm so tempted to open the set...must resist!

I opened mine, applied all the stickers, (be careful guys) they are the barely touch and are the "really super" stuck type. I wasn't sure at first about the tan/khaki colored pieces, but with stickers applied the nice uniformed color is cool. It seems a little larger than the original, optic illusion maybe. It has several black plastic rivets on either side of the floor interior. Six separate screens with the ST emblem logo on the other with the U.S.S enterprise written on it I think there are differences for example, the two clear spaces in the floor seam on either side as well. Overall though, it's great! who would have thought we'd ever see it again. Half the fun of getting it was opening it and putting it all together. OK, so if I wear it out I have to have a couple more in that eventuality, so it works out for everyone.

Why are you not going to open it? As like the origonals these aren't going to be worth a lot of money in the future.

Open it and enjoy it.
