    Justice #12

i dunno--i dont think im a dumb guy, and ive read a bajillion comics so im familiar with the form, but...i could barely understand what the heck was going on with this last issue. i kept going "wait...what's happening?" during it.

i have loved every DC project Alex Ross had a major hand in, but i have to say i was disappointed with this...it started strong but slow, and i was sure it was building to something cool. but it got more convoluted and confusing and by this final issue i was just sorta staring at the pretty pictures.

I was afraid of this. Every since they used the Metal Men as armor, I've been a bit...lost on where things were going. I was hoping for a powerful wrap up that made it all make sense. But like you said, the pictures will be pretty!

While I have to admit I read this with my son and daughter breathing over my shoulder, I found the story telling a real let down. It's not cohesive and it can be confusing, it also lacked a certain "Umph" that a good Justice League story should have for me.

      Sorry to get so technical.

i've never had one problem following the stories in Marvels, Kingdom Come, or the oversized books(sacrilege!), so i assume its the fault of Doug Braithwaite, who Ross is painting over.

in fact, i'm a little surprised Ross did this, since in interviews he's said that, for him, the real creativity comes from the laying out of the page, and the painting over the pencils is more technical to him, which is what he's doing here.

i think the story lost something when they started working in, like, EVERYBODY in the DCU. it started off as a classic JLA story, but by the time youve got the Marvel Family, the Doom Patrol, and the Metal Men in there, i think it got out of hand.

It just got too confusing ... I may have to sit down and read it all in one sitting to see if it makes sense. The long gaps between issues also didn't help!!!

I didn't think #12 was as bad as some of the issues just prior to it. Made sense even though I think the storyline on a whole fizzled out. Even though it was 12 issues it bit off way more than it could chew trying to spotlight most members of the JLA and Legion of Doom in some way as well as adding the Metal Men, Doom Patrol, Teen Titans, et. al. Now in contrast, Ross' Kingdom Come told an epic story in only 4 issues but it didn't try to focus on every character featured (and they were a lot more of 'em). Maybe it's the writer Ross was paired up with?

It kind'a seemed like the climax of the story was saving Zatanna because she couldn't breathe in space even tho she took them there to get Brainiac. Shouldn't the climax have been Luthor turning on Braniac and saving mankind because he knew he could beat Brainiac? Should not that have been the big finale?
