View Full Version : My current sewing battle...

I am currently working on a 1/6 scale outfit for Cornelius's grey mens suit with the checks. It is a bear to align the checks.

I worked on Cornelius's suit for a few hours now with lots of surfing inbetween today. I have both sleeves sewn on now (with the added seam, so now both sleeves have two seams each like a real suit!!)...and for the most part, the check pattern still matches!! I will need to trim down the collar and slim the suit a little...it's 50% done, not counting the lining that I want to add. Yay me!!

This will be a major sewing feat for me when I complete this suit. No more fidgeting with other gazzillion ape customizing projects I have until I get this suit done!!

Once I get the kinks out and make one complete suit, replicating it again should not be a big deal...it's just the hurdle of getting the first one made...

Judging by other photos of your Ape clothes I've seen it will turn out fantastic.

How about a teaser pic?

I admire your fastidious attention to detail, it's a great fabric. These are for the Sideshow figs?

For an easy Mego version, one might use a repro Wayne suit w/ ribbon ascot.

Looks like you found the correct fabric!

Can't wait to see the final suit!

Here's the status of the jacket. I have to slim down the sleeves to match the rest of the jacket and it's just pinned in place...After I slimmed the body down of the jacket, the width of the sleeves no longer looked appropriate . I also opened up the lapel too much for the photograph but it's getting there. My camera sucks.

Worked on it again last night. I started over and re-cut everything. The sleeves are better now. I just wish I had cut the lapel a little bit different so that the notch is not so far apart as they are now. Maybe I will re-do the collar and extend the outmost edge to bring it closer to the lapel.

I forgot that the underside of the lapel is the right side. I need to remove the left facing with a new one and make sure the pattern of the checks match.

Where do you get the repro Wayne suit?

Dr.Mego has them on his website. Just look under the "clothing and business suits" section.

For those who are able to print patterns onto fabric, how much would it cost to print blue grey stripes, 1/6 scale so that I could make the dress shirt for this outfit:

Thanks, guys. I have way too many projects started because I get frustrated and keep starting new ones, never really completing anything. So, my goal is to finish this suit so I can send it to its merry way. I have two more suits like this to go, but if I can iron out the kinks with the first one, the next two suits should fly.

I missed you at the forums, Livnxxxl. Also noticed that you were not posting here for awhile, Censy. Glad to see you both are back.

Hi Jess, Thanks a bunch for noticing. It is great to be back to interact with all of the cool members here such as yourself and to see all of your neat creations. :cool_y: I took some time away and was on a vacation of sorts. I am still playing catch up here a bit in the forums to see what I had missed out on. Glad to be back in the loop here though.

Here are the pants (still needs a waistband and hemming, but I was too excited and wanted to photograph today, to try to catch the last of the natural sunlight). I can almost see the finish line!!

Stunning Jessica, both in choice of fabric and final product. I HATE sewing, so I just sit back and admire your work. And I'll say once again how much I love your photos.

The poses you put them in make them look alive. The one where Zira is giggling and Cornelius is leaning against the wall is priceless.

Jess, Your customs are way too much. Meaning of course they are awesome looking and over the top as far as I am concerned. I cannot wait to see what you do next.

BTW - I have also been thinking in regards to your earlier request for a fabric pattern transfer. Providing that you have a bubble jet printer couldn't you print your design out on some iron on paper and then iron it on some plain white fabric? I am not sure if this is the absolute approach that you are looking for as the final end result. Although I do believe that it might fill in for you in the interim. I have been thinking about doing this to make some of my own designs. What do you think?

Hi, Livxxxl. You can print onto fabric now with an inkjet. I don't have access to a good one. I have an inkjet at home, but I'd rather not burn $$ to purchase cartridges to find out it still SUCKS, so I am waiting for the experts. I'm doing some research on it, but if somebody has already printed successfully on fabric, I'm all ears.

Hi Jess, Totally understandable. I have "heard" of the printing on fabric method although I have not tried it for myself yet. I believe that I have read about it a few times in some craft threads by searching Google. I have been kicking around the idea on printing on fabric myself. I use the iron on technique for mock up test runs and even some emblems every now and then. Please keep me posted as to your findings if you would. I would like to find someone that is good and reputable as well. Thanks for your response.

Look at their new ride!! Doesn't it look great????!!! Their BBQ grill is strapped to the back. I just need to find a bottle of grape juice plus and some goblets...and they're ready to rock and roll!!!

I went to the site itself, and they have some really nice stuff in 1:6 scale, including the bike with the sidecar.

I'm thinking of getting one of the bright red bikes myself.

Will we see his new duds in traffic court? It's not good to mix scooters and "grape juice"

I just came across this thread and those look incredible. I just started sewing for my custom outfits. Are these all done by hand or machine?

Both. Mostly machine sewn, since it's cleaner. I had to tack down the collar by hand with invisible stitches.

Sadly, I do not own the outfit, but it went to a good home.
