And while we are on the subject. I think Ja Ja Binks was very well cast. . .and no other actor could have pulled off the role. . . except for possibly a steaming pile of Horse manure (elephants could work as well).

So did I....no sarcasm in that answer...it had a lot going for it...the pod race, Darth Maul, the final Lighsaber battle, Qui Gon Jinn, Jedi's , big battles between ground forces, Palpatines begining of his rise to power...
I think people hated it because Lucas was essentially trying to make the film for the same age group as New Hope...to which he succeeded...millions of 6-13 year olds became Srtar Wars fans because of this film as we did in the 70's...that's why Jar Jar was in there as well as some of the droid dialogue....the fact that original trilogy fans had grown up and saw parts of the film as purile is the reason many older fans hated it (this isn't the reason for everybody of course).

Darth Maul was the only thing I liked about that horrid flick...everything else sucked...from the wooden performances of all the actors (Liam Neeson to a lesser degree), that awful kid actor, the narration of the pod race (sounded like something out of Nickelodeon), to that thing called Jar Jar whatever. Natalie Portman...despite being a solid actress...was simply embarrassing as Amidala/Padame.

Come to think of it...I don't like ANY of the new trilogy films.

You know what the actors in the original SW films had that these new actors didn't?

Chemistry. Hamill, Ford, Fisher, Guinness, etc...all had chemistry, charisma, and humor.

In the new ones...there was ZERO chemistry, charisma, and humor...unless you call Jar Jar Binks humor.

Plus the original SW had ol' school miniatures, special-effects done with heart and passion, blue screens, etc... The new ones are just big giant video games.

I don't know what good 'ol George was thinking when he decided to have the Trade Federation dudes speak in a stereotypical-yellow-peril-evil-Chinese accent...good grief...lol.

If you notice on the third film...when they appear again...that accent is gone.

That's because Lucas got a lashing from Asian groups for that, lol.
