I have the fear of snakes. I can't be near them or I'll lose it. I was once almost bitten by one as a kid and now I'm terrified by them. My sister has a really weird phobia. She is scared of midgets. Can you imagine a 41 yr. old woman terrified by little people? I once saw her leave a store because she saw a midget.

I'm deathly afraid of birds. I have ornithophobia. I can't view baby birds on tv at all...I hyperventilate and I can't breathe. I can't cook a whole chicken and can only cook chicken that's been cut into pieces already. I freak out every time I have to crack an egg open to bake or cook, because I'm always afraid there'd be some solids in there, from a fertilized egg. I don't know what I would do if I ever encounter that, but I can tell you it's not going to be pretty...

I travel on airplanes often, but I don't like it one bit.
Think about it .......
Man was made to walk on the ground .......
The people who are perfectly calm on airplanes 5 miles in the sky --- perhaps THEY are actually the irrational crazy ones.

Not a big fan of heights...and that goes for flying as well.
But the biggest one is dying a slow and agonizing death in a cold soul less hospital bed...having been bedridden for over a year myself, I can sort of relate to that...it's not something to look forward to. When my time comes, I hope to the powers within that it's a fast and painless death.

Look, I'm a pretty big, burly guy, and I live in New York.
I've seen a lot of creepy stuff in my day that scares most folks but doesn't really affect me.
In my youth, I've been in more than my share of scrapes, and I saw more horror than I care to remember up close and personal during 9/11.
But if I ever encounter a large COCKROACH (especially the kind that can fly), I'll tear off running screaming, hollering, and cryin' like a sawed-off BEEE-otch!!
All testosterone... just gone. No decorum. No bravado. No self-respect or dignity.
Just sheer, uncontrolled sissy PANIC. Really... it's not a pretty thing to see...

I hate security lines (as in airports), I hate driving, I hate coleslaw, and I have a strong aversion of mayonaise. Really.
When I was in the medical field I could totally handle blood, urine, feces, or mucous.

Heights. For as long as I can remember.
I try to go the "Batman Begins" route to face them to overcome them, going on rides at Six Flags or making myself walk on balconies, etc. but it never seems to go away . . .

Very deep water. I am a decent swimmer & I love the ocean and the beach, I like snorkling around a reef and stuff but as soon as the bottom drops off, I am out of there. We are virtually helpless in the water. I don't like that everything living beneath me in the water wants to eat me. You can't evade predators, you can breath, you can't fight effectively. Screw that.

I can't go up on tall ladders. anything past 6 feet and I will not do it.
Public speaking, but I'm getting better on that.
8 inch action figures scare the life out of me:biggrin:

I am not afraid of knifes but I am afraid of Blades like table saws and pizza cutters. I won't touch those things and don't like being around them.
Deep water for me too -- I cannot swim, if I can stand I am fine.

I'm not crazy about deep water either ....
I can swim
But when I stay still in the water, I sink like a rock.

commitment, other than my wife, I'm really bad at making plans with people. Especially new people...
Heights- I tried out for the fire fighters once, when I had to cross the street over a ladder I discovered my fear. Just got a shiver.

I have a fear of falling. Not of heights, mind you, but the falling scares the poop out of me. I have a lot of trouble with the first hill of a rollercoaster and I cannot go on those rides that simply take you up and drop you.
BTW, have you ever heard of Pediophobia. Its the fear of dolls, I wonder if there is a more specific word for the fear of action figures.

I have an irrational fear of flying.
My father worked and retired from Delta for 35 years. I also worked for an airline for several years during college. I'd flown many times with no big deals. However, around the age of 25 or so I started having night terrors about plane crashes. Either I was on one going down or I was a witness to a crash. Ever since, it's hard to get me on a plane, but I'll do it if absolutely necessary. I no longer have those dreams, but they left me a bit scarred. I just take a change of underwear in my carry-on bag.

Snakes!!!! they literaly paralyze me with fear....no matter what size. There was once a gartter snake about six inches long curled up on the door step of my house.....and I was trapped. I had to call a friend over to get it off....the little *******. (the snake, not my friend)
I have recently been attending the Zoo to help me get over my phobia but that damn albino cobra is seriuosly putting the brakes on my recovery.

I'm afraid of heights, for sure, especially if there's no railing or the railing is too low. I don't like centipedes, but it's more of a dislike than a fear.

I don't like clowns. I am not afraid of them, but I have some instinctive dislike that makes me want to attack them. Specifically, Carnival, street, and party clowns. Rodeo clowns don't bother me, and I really like Cirque du Soliel been to 3 shows, no problem. Party clowns?? Attack.

As a kid, ventriloquist dummies used to creap me out.
I think those few dummy Twilight Zones was the cause
I also used to be afraid of store mannequins.

I have a fear of public speaking, like making a speech or something. My heart starts beating much faster and my hands get clammy right before I have to go up and present it. It's kind of like what happens during the last seconds of an ebay auction I desperately want. I just hate the idea of everyone looking at me.

I'm the complete opposite .....

I'd do a ballerina dance in a tutu if it made people look at me

Nothing that I would describe as a phobia but many of the things mentioned I don't really care for either but am not really scared per se.
I can completely relate to the public speaking fear which I believe is considered the #1 fear. I used to get really nervous before an important speech and the thought of appearing nervous even made me more nervous.
I took a Dale Carnegie class about 12 years ago and that helped. Now I do so many presentations it really doesn't bother me...a twinge of nervousness but nothing out of the ordinary.
I haven't given a speech to a real large group like 200 people or more but I would imagine that might create a bit of a nervousness.

heights ... if over like 20 feet.
Flying ... I've never been on a plane and doubt I ever will. Good thing I like road trips ;)
but #1 is Bats ... I hate bats, most of the fear of them comes from the fact a small % of them have rabies. The fact they fly like their's something wrong with them even when normal just makes me think they all have something wrong with them lol. I have no problem if they are on TV or if I know they can get me ... last night I saw one flying around out side ... it was fun to watch, but if someone would have opened the door I would have freaked.

I border between #2 & #4. Take meds for both.
4. Agoraphobia: Agoraphobia involves intense fear and avoidance of any place or situation where escape might be difficult or help unavailable in the event of developing sudden panic-like symptoms. Approximately 3.2 million American, or about 2.2 percent, have agoraphobia.
A list of all know phobias (http://www.webspinning.com.au/home/lambertj/public_html/phobia.html)
sweet..im in a percentage...finally, i belong to something...going to walmart on a weekend...not the funnest thing for me to try and do..just ask my wife or kids...

Public Speaking and needles. I cut my leg open a few years back (10 inches long and WIDE) and it didn't really bother me that much but when they got me into the hospital and started to give me a shot to numb the pain, I almost passed out :smiley1: JOHN

a few years back, i did a lab study(literally i was a lab rat)....and in the first 60 minutes of taking the test medication, they drew our blood like 5 times..by the end of the study(10 days)...it was around 30 or so times....ouch...you kinda get over a fear with that sort of thing...
