View Full Version : Mego G.I. Joe
Brown Bear

Well folks, here is my favorite custom I've made to date....a Mego GI Joe.
The head (courtesy of starbuk) was painted by me and flocked by ActionBurt. You gotta see the head to appreciate Mike's flocking work. Amazing!
Suit and dog tag courtesy of DocDrako who was kind enough to help me out.
I cut the hands off a western Big Jim figure to provide Joe with his famous "Kung Fu Grip".

Ya I have to make one. I thought I would flock a AJ head but I like this head better. Might have to shrink a 12 Joe head. Nice man you gave me a great Idea.

Man he looks really cool. In my humble opinion it just inst a Joe without the flocked head. There aren't many of us who can do a complete custom without any help from others, myself included. He turned out really sharp. Colaborative efforts are just as cool as solo ones.

I could never figure out the whole GI Joe thing. Most of my friends that went to the military told me that they had a strict code for hair and facial hair. Why did they use to present GI Joe like Grizzly Adams? If he was a GI he would have a shaved had with no facial hair. Not sure what the specs are for the military (Someone help me out here.)
But am I right? Not bagging the custom, the custom looks superb by the way!!

The GI Joe Adventure Team were not military with the possible exception of the Man Of Action. This explains the fuzz heads. The original, painted head Joes were military. No facial hair, crew cuts. :)

The Adventure Team came after the military figures, Wrathdemon. Even though they kept the name GIJoe, the concept was completely different. To that end, a new look was presented, something cooler, and more 70s.

I think it had something to do with the Vietnam war. Parents didn't like the idea of buying military toys for their kids at that time, so GI Joe was reworked into an adventurer. I'm pretty sure that was the story I read somewhere. Whatever the reason, I love the Adventure Team, although I won't be marrying it anytime soon.

Yes. This had a hand in it. Joe's sales were dropping. The AT ended up surpassing the military Joe in sales. I too love the AT. Fuzzy hair and KFG. Awesome looking figure Brown Bear. I've been wanting to do one like this for years. Maybe I'll get off my hiney and do one now that I've ssen yours. ;)

Ooooh! I love that! Great, BB!
I never saw a "western Big Jim" and never have seen anything other than the flat, open handed Big Jims. Nice choice for Joe's hands, though. Bravo! Your custom lineup is looking fabulous!
