This isn`t a best film thread, but a favourite film moments thread (the film could suck).

I`ve got loads but three that spring to mind initially are...

Tank girl - I just love the bit with Lori Petty in the sand shower - It`s the music (Portishead IIRC) and atmosphere.

First Blood - The bit where Rambo drives the army truck through the police cars, again the music helps but it just always amazes me that that truck ever stayed on its wheels.

Pulp Fiction - Both the Big Mac conversation and the coffee conversation. Fantastic writing about such trivial things.

I`m off to think of some more now.

I'm sure I'll come up with more but off hand

I like the point in The Usual Suspects when you finally figure out the identity of Kaiser Soze

Of course the Empire Strikes Back when Vader exclaims "I am your father"

A Few Good Men when Tom Cruise has Jack Nicholson on the witness stand and gets him to admit that he ordered the code red.

The scene in Ghostbuster's at the beginning where the guy gets an electric shock (even after guessing the right card!) and his gum falls out of his mouth. Then he sticks his thumb in it and puts it back in his mouth. For some reason it always cracks me up.

Star Wars Episode 1

The Sun setting on the Jedi Council tower on Couriscant as young Anakin is tested. The symbolism is lost on most viewers that now that they have found Anakin the sun is setting on the Jedi Order and the Old Republic. Their time is coming to an end. A friend of mine had to point this out. It gets lost in all the bad reviews.

Field of Dreams

Hey Dad, you wanna play some catch?

Lord of the Rings

The tracking-in on Frodo's tear outside Moira after Gandalf has died.

Flash Gordon to Dr. Zarkoff

Flash, ( Buster Crabbe ) - Say Doc, any of these rockets ever come back?

Man trying to get in!!! Man trying to get in!!!

Have you seen Dracula?

Yah, when it first came out!

One other moment that was particularly poignant. In the movie Glory when Denzel Washington's character leaves camp to find shoes I think but is caught and convicted of AWOL. His sentence is a public whipping. When they pull his shirt off, his back is scarred from being a former slave and he just stares at Matthew Broderick with a look of hate and humiliation and a single tear comes from his eye....

Yeah that's a good one and I like when they're about to go fight towards the end and he tells the reporters Tell them what you saw today you really see the fear in Matthew's eyes at that moment....

SpaceBalls - combing the desert scene - "We ain't found s$%t!"
Three Amigos - "Jefe, would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?"
Happy Gilmore - Happy cussing the ball out on the monitor in the back ground
Fletch - 6'9" with the afro!

My favorite scene is also from my favorite movie. In Casablanca, when Paul Henreid stands up to the Nazis in the bar and has the band play the French national anthem, with the crowd beginning to sing and slowly overtaking the German officers' voices.

Others of note:
The helicopter attack scene in Apocalypse Now
The chase scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark starting with the horse and ending with Indy beating the snot out of the guy who tried to run him over
The end of On the Waterfront when Terry Malloy takes on Johnny Friendly
The end scene of Ride the High Country with Joel McCrea Slowly slumping over and dying as the credits roll (the best ending to a movie ever)
I'll go with a scene from Glory, too. The one that gets me is when they're all singing before they go into battle, when you know they're almost all going to die.

Many more that I can't think of

Paul, Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies, and I think the Big Mac
conversation is fantastic as well...but curiousity has me wondering about
the coffee conversation's brilliance from your viewpoint

Can you elaborate?

From one Pulp Fiction fan to another... ;)
__________________________________________

Star Wars - "You're all clear kid...now let's blow this thing..."
I love how the Millenium Falcon is lit up by a star during that scene.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - I like when Belloq and Indy meet for a drink.
It's always cool to see a "sit down" between hero and villain. The line
"I oughta kill you right now" typifies this. They can either talk or try to kill each
other. That's cool. "It''s not a private place for a murder. Sit down before you fall down"
Strange Brew - "I could crush your head like a nut, but I won't, because I
need you" MaxVon Sydow at his most playfully evil....and then he lifts
the guy up by his ear!
The Empire Strikes Back - Always loved the incestual kiss. Han is so p.o.ed
Ghostbusters - "I looked at the trap Ray" "They hate it when I do that"
Ghostbusters has way too many...I could go on and on.
The Princess Bride - I specifically like the scene with Wallace Shawn and the
poison in the drinking goblet contest. Shawn's rationale for which cup to pick
(or not pick) cracks me up.
This Is...Spinal Tap - My fave part is when Nigel comes onstage for the
first time after splitting from the group. The reuniting akin to Han and Luke
(in Star Wars) at the end of the movie always chokes me up
Superman II - "General, would you care to step outside?" Superman
as a serious mo fo---I like it
Three Amigos - "Must be watered down" (after they drink the tequila)
Return Of The Jedi - Every scene the Emperor is in is great. He's so nasty.
BTW---the scene where the Stormtrooper takes Luke away after meeting
with Vader----do ya think when they were alone in the elevator, the
stormtrooper may have asked "Hey is that really your dad?"
The Muppet Movie - The Gonzo tune "I'm Going To Go Back There Someday"
is quite moving to me.
Scrooged - I always get choked up when Frank's being burned alive and he
shouts to his brother "Don't let them burn me" it's his real life brother BTW
(I'm getting choked up just thinking about it)
A Christmas Story - "A statue" "Don't bother me...I'm thinking"
Xmas Story is another one with a MILLION killer moments
Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom - How about when Mola Ram's head
bounces off the canyon wall---or when Indy says: "Oh s**t" when he
realizes how screwed he is on the rope bridge.
Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade - "Did you say run?" "Run!"
Fargo - Macy getting arrested at the end is a pretty intense performance
Pulp Fiction - I just like seei9ng Travolta in that character. My fave scene
with him is when he and Bruce (Butch) have a little scene together
and the sparks fly really fast in that small moment
Yellow Submarine - I think the head Blue Meanie is great---any scene with
him in it & the "newly restored" Hey Bulldog scene cause I love that song
Raising Arizona - "I don't know, they had Yoda's and s**t on 'em!"
True Romance - The main Drexl scene KILLS. Oldman KILLS
Risky Business - Guido selling Cruise his stuff back at the end
Back To The Future - Marty's mom putting the moves on him
Flirting With Disaster - A LOT of great moments in this one. I love both
mistaken parents sequences, and I also love Tomlin as a "guide" for
the acid trip
Resevoir Dogs - The Chinese standoff at the end. All thos guns pointed
different directions...what'll happen...the SUSPENSE!
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - One word: Ruprecht

The Sentry

See with me I like alot of movies, so alot you may not have seen,

Real Men- When Jim Belushi looks at John Ritter and says;
B-"What do ya wanna hear first the good news or the bad news?"
R-"What's the bad news?"
B-"It dosen't look like were gunna make it outta here alive."
R-"WHAT'S THE GOOD NEWS?"
B-"It' dosent look like we'll be here for long." I about shot my whole can of Coke outta my nose the first time I saw that!

My favorite moive, "THE BIG LEBOWSKI"
When he's listening to "Lookin out my back door" flicks the joint out the window and it falls in his lap, and he's freaking out, and hits the bin with his car! I still howl at that!

But the greatest scene in movie history as far as I'm concerned is the last 15 minutes of Scarface. Pretty damned hard to beat there! :yeah:

Hulk
Jun 12, '07, 4:55 AM
Scarface - the entire scene ending with "Ernie, You want a job?" followed closely by "Make way for the bad guy" and "Octavio"

Reservoir Dogs - "Stick in the Middle with You"

Pulp Fiction - "SAY WHAT AGAIN. I dare you, I double dare you..."

Godfather - "You can act like a man!"

Princess Bride - "I do not mean to pry, but you don't by any chance happen to have six fingers on your right hand?" and ensuing swordfight, especially the "I am not lefthanded" switches.

Sudden Impact - "Nobody... I mean NOBODY puts ketchup on a hot dog." scene

Batman - "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!"

The Search for Spock - "Because the needs of the one... outweigh the needs of the many."

Return of The Pink Panther:

Clouseau ticks off a blind begger and his monkey outside a bank for begging while the bank is being robbed in the bacground, then gives the robbers back a bag of money before waving them off. The bank manager runs out with a gun to stop them and Clouseau knocks him out.

Chief Inspector Dreyfuss: Why didn't you arrest the begger?
Clouseau: There was some question as to whether the begger and his minky were breaking the law.
D: Minky!!???
C: Chimpanzee, minky...so I let them both off with a warning.
D: the begger was the lookout man.
C: that is impossible, he was blind!
D: how do you know he was blind?
C: because he told me so.
D: would you believe me if I told you you weren't going to be suspended for six months?
C: yes
D: well, I am a bigger liar than the begger, you are suspended for six months, effective immediately without pay. Have you got anything to say?
C:...............can you lend me 50 francs.
D: Get out! Get out of my office, if you're not out of here within 5 seconds, I will not be responsible for my actions.
C: 5 seconds is nothing...I can easily be out of here in 3!

Dreyfuss pulls out a gun to shoot which turns out to be a lighter.

Superb!

Pulp Fiction - No Words Being Said - Jules drinking Brad's Big Kahuna drink - He just looks like a bad MoFo and "Cool like Fonzie" scene.

Fletch - "These matresses don't have any tags!" and "You and your wife are currently alive?"

Heat - The coffee meet between De Niro and Pacino

Casino - The corn field scene

Jaws - The best line - "We gonna need a bigger boat!" and the "Comparing scars" scene

Private Ryan - The 1st 17 minutes, most realistic war scene ever

Escape From NY - I just love that eerie music, it gives me chills

Fast Times - Phebe Cates' bikini scene

Animal House - "Face it Flounder, you **** up, trusted us!" (or something along those lines

I could go on for days

Yeah, sure. I just think that Quentin Tarantino is funny, the speed he talks, the way he looks and the way he is going on about his good coffee above the rubbish his wife buys, and then to top it Mr Wolfe? (Harvey Kietel) comments on what great coffee it is. The whole thing makes me smile.

That's kinda what I was thinking you might say, as Tarantino's talking
cadence spikes his performance and almost overshadows the actual dialogue
(or may actually do that!)----he's probably talking that jumpy/quick due to all that caffiene from all his great coffee ;)

VACATION
Clark: I think you're all f@$ed in the head. We're ten hours from the f@#*ing fun park and you want to bail out. Well I'll tell you something. This is no longer a vacation. It's a quest. It's a quest for fun. I'm gonna have fun and you're gonna have fun. We're all gonna have so much f@#$ing fun we'll need plastic surgeory to remove our g'damn smiles. You'll be whistling 'Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah' out of you're a$$holes! I gotta be crazy! I'm on a pilgrimage to see a moose. Praise Marty Moose! Holy ****!

Rusty Griswold: [Grab's Clarks shoulder] Dad, you want an Asprin?

Clark: DON'T TOUCH!

********************
RESERVOIR DOGS
Mr. Blonde: Are you gonna bark all day, little doggy, or are you gonna bite?

Mr. White: What was that? I'm sorry, I didn't catch it. Would you repeat it?

Mr. Blonde: Are you gonna bark all day, little doggy, or are you gonna bite?

***************************
REPO MAN
Miller: A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Otto: You eat a lot of acid, Miller, back in the hippie days?

Two more, both from A life Less Ordinary.

The first is the call box scene where Ewan Mcgreggor is making ransom demands and keeps getting it wrong.
"It`s me"..w.h.o.?.."The kiddnapper"
"Listen daughter, I`ve got your ar$ehole here"
And the wrong number, and so on.

The other is when Ewan McGreggor is digging his own grave, his abducter makes him get in the pit and is about to shoot him as Cameron Diaz whacks the guy with a shovel who falls into the pit on top of E McG. Thinking he has been shot he goes crazy, and I think what makes it is the camera angle shot from ground level in the pit looking up at the blind panic in his face - brilliant.

Great idea for a thread. Off the top of my head:

Star Wars-Han and Luke fighting the Tie fighters after the escape from the
Death Star.
The Millenium Falcon coming in to save Luke at the last second.

The Magnificent Seven-the "We deal in lead friend" exchange before the first
gun fight and the "Nobody throws me my own guns.." scence
before the final battle.

The Great Escape-"He didn't get caught"; the motorcycle chase: "Job just
didn't work out"

Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan-"I don't like to loose."

You Only Live Twice-the ninjas pouring down the ropes into the volcano.

Goldfinger-"I expect you to die!"

A Bridge Too Far-General Horrocks briefing 30 Corp; The British officer telling
the German they can't accept his surrender.

I could easily come up with more.

The Great Escape-motorcycle chase

My all time favorite is the helicopter beach scene from "Apocalypse Now" with
"Ride of the Valkyries" being blasted on loud speakers, the chase scene from "Bullet" and the entire movie: "The Blues Brothers".

Return of the Jedi - when Vader saves Luke. I first saw the movie when I was 6 and I had no idea that Vader was going to turn good, still has that feeling to me.

First Blood - when Rambo breaks free from the Jail

Road Warrior - the intro of the film and how it ties into the end of the film.

Smokey and the Bandit - when all the truckers help him hide and get away

Terminator - Sara thinks the Terminator is dead, but then it pops up out of the fire without any skin

Superman - when he first shows the world what he can do ... saving Lois, the plane, stops the bad guys on the boat. and best of all saving the cat from the tree and the little girl tells her mom and then gets in trouble for lying lol

Spiderman 2 - the fight on the train

Indiana Jones temple of Doom - the end when he comes back to the village and then all the kids come running home

Ghostbusters - "are you a god" ... "No?"
