What is the deal with these figures?! I just picked up a 13 inch deluxe Joker with cloth outfit and beautifully sculpted face for considerably less. But THESE far inferior SIX inch figures are headed for the moon!

I would say it's due to the fact that the figure is in the most commonly collected format. I would venture a guess that most of the people buying these aren't even aware the DC Direct figure exists. This is a creepy combo of death speculation and figure frenzy.
These folks are gonna be SAD when not only ebay, but also store AND collectors shelves are full of Jokers and the artificial value drops out of the figure.
Hell, before this ebay spike I saw the figure at retail a bunch of times.

How soon do you think it will be until we see an AFA graded Ledger Joker?

I can't believe what Dark Knight advance one sheets featuring Ledger's Joker are selling for in some places. I settled for a nice reprint, I'm not paying crazy prices due the current Ledger "after death" fad.

Hey, if anyone wants to help a brother out, I am looking for one, and I promise it is not for resell, I am just a batman fan, I am in Jersey and have not seen a single one of these figures, I also need the henchman figures as well. Anyway figured it did not hurt to try since everyone else seems to find them.

Is the DCD version also a 6" movie Joker? I've never seen that one. The Movie Masters ones aren't too bad though. I wouldn't mind having one, just because it's a new look for the Joker and sadly there can't be any more Batman movies feather Ledger as the Joker. I keep finding the other movie Joker though - the one that's not as nice and doesn't look much like him.

For some reason that particular Joker (with the evidence thing in the package) is hard to come by. I've got a friend who's a major Batman nut and he hasn't been able to score one yet.

Me, on the other hand, saw them on the shelf once and passed them by. Figures...

This is not unique to this figure, this happens with almost every new Mattel DC character, Steve sent me a link once for the "The Batman" Superman figure going over $70. A half hour later I found 4 of them.

Some people MUST have the new figures first and there seems to be a never ending supply. I did it once too, paying like $30 for a BTAS Creeper and while on my way to get the money order, I found two at TRU. DUR!

Remember the Marvel Legends Yellow Daredevil a few years back. They just came out, the paint was'nt even dry and those puppies were gonig foe $150 on ebay.

And he's been on the peg at my local Rite-Aid for the past 2 years gathering dust.

I hate to say it but the yellow daredevil still brings decent money, I sold one not to long ago for $100, so he still does do decent, I asked at toy r us about the joker last night and the guy told me they have been recalled but then a friend found one at a walmart so who knows what is going on

OK, I figured out why some went high. The 1st Release of Joker was recalled. I saw two of these at Walmart today, didn't grab them, but got home and did some research. The ones I saw had black tape over the model number. The ones that were recalled have the model number #5070, and have certain characters on the back. The new ones have different backs and tape over the model number.
