View Full Version : Mego X-men- The way I always pictured them

Been wanting to do X-men for years, since my first custom attempts in fact. Never got around to it. Then I saw what Brian Leitner was doing with his stuff, and it was so near to what I had in my head, I just bought a couple of his complete customs. Cyclops, Phoenix, Storm and Colosuss are all Brian. Jim Hampton did his Nightcrawler kit and it was another one that hit the mark for me, but being too busy to sew, I asked Brian if he had a Nightcrawler suit in the works. He did. All I had to do was paint the head. Finally the one I finished tonight and actually had to do something on... Wolverine. I wanted the brown version, that's the way I remember him and that's how he was on the X-team I'm most fond of. Brian was up to the challenge of the suit and I actually had to adapt boots, claws AND paint the head. Jeez, it's getting so a guy actually has to do something himself around here to make a custom!

I think the head for Wolverine came from Reproheads. Not quite sure. Someone sent me a few heads to paint a couple years ago then disappeared without paying, so I ended up with this one and liked it.

So here are the X-men I've always wanted. I didn't do much, but that doesn't make displaying them any less enjoyable!

Dave, this is unbelievably awesome. Can I ask how much you paid for these gems? You can offline me if you don't want to announce it. LOL
I would have paid top dollar also.

Stunning!!!!

Brian Leitner is one of the reasons (next to Paul Clark) that gave me the fuel to get back into mego collecting and customizing many years ago. Brian is simply amazing and a total inspiration to me and my daughter.
Brian made a Sinestro and Powergirl costume for our figures. You can see them in my link to my custom figures. I don't think there is a person I have seen that can touch Brian's costume work. He has a gift that many of us struggle to capture.

Here's one for Brian Leitner!!

They look great, especially Wolverine. I always did like the brown costume better than the yellow and blue.

I love your figs Dave----nice pic.

At closer inspection---that WOLVERINE suit is percision personified IMO---
the way Brian L integrated all the diffferent costume colors AND the flesh
so smoothly is a HUGE accomplishment

We all know there are great customs being produced but in the last year or so the concetration of group efforts is simply amazing. Also, the amount of team sets of customs is really cool to see. From Dave's Star Wars to Derek's Scooby stuff . . . this is my favorite stuff to see!

Thomas deserves a mention for his Batman 66, monsters and authors!

Hi, ironically I wrote a letter to Mego back in 1980. And, I asked them to consider a new lineup of WGSH figures. And, my choice was the X-Men. I was a big fan of Beast, and thought they could use the Hulk or the Thing body, but to no avail this did not happen. Too bad. Customs are all we have now, and there are some awesome ones out there.

Beautiful! I have a Brian Leitner Wolverine in assembly now. This is exactly the type of X-Men collection I hope to complete one day.

Nice.... These are awsome Man . I think you did a great job on the Wolverine and the Night crawler head. What did you make the wolverine claws from? I'm trying to make a wolverine also but can't seem to get the claw right. These are cool these are nice to see bacause these are the XMen I grew up with. Again very cool . These have inspired me to some day soon make my own. Thanks for shareing them with us .
