That brings back memories ......
We had a 2 Guys about 20 miles away.
Used to go there all the time for clothes and toys ....
It was in Dover NJ

BTW, speaking of 2 Guys, in the 70's the Dover store was in one of the infamous "Blue Law" counties on NJ.
It was against the law for them to sell clothing on Sunday.
On Sunday, when you walked into the store --- the whole clothing section was roped off with movie theatre style ropes.
Weird, thinking about that today .

Great memories, guys! Imagine not being able to buy clothes on a Sunday! I lived in Massachusetts for a while, and they still have blue laws. Things like NO ALCOHOL SALES ON SUNDAY. But no clothing?! Bizarre.

We didn't have Two Guys where I grew up (in MI), but it sounds like it was a pretty cool store.

That particular, super-minty Batgirl is the one pictured in the book, and it's in my private collection. It's never leaving my house. :silly:

Seriously, though. Isn't is weird how we look back at original Mego prices and just laugh?! To my recollection, $3-4 for a toy was a stretch for most families in the 1970s. I suppose that's why so many Mego toys are such rarities today.

Still, I am amazed at how Mego prices have increased over the years. In most cases, a collector can expect to advance the original price stickers' decimal points at least two places: $2.99 then = $299.00 today. Yep, that's about right.

Kinda cool.

I won't bore you again about how we used to play manhunt in the Levittown (PA) Two Guys. I can still see the Lost World pinball machine we used as base.

-b I think that's only a small part of the raritie, i feel the biggest part is back then toys were brought for kid to play with and there were no adults buy them to keep unopened, It wasn't till STAR WARS that adults started to collect toys and even for them there numbers were small

Actually, I would LOVE to hear about any Alexander's memories you have. All I know is that it was a New York Department store founded in 1967, and that it closed in 1992. If you can share any of your Mego and/or Alexander's memories, I'm all ears.

You wanted to know about Alexander's? Well,here's what I know; Alexander's(in my day)was part of Menlo Park Mall. It was anchored by Bamberger's with like,22 fine stores(all horrible)in between. Now, back then(the early 70's) A mother could leave her son in the toy department, while she looked at clothes,and other nonsense.Forget that, I wanted to see toys! And what a windfall that delivered! I was there when Mego's first came out. Solid boxes(I swear!) I had no idea what they were. I actually thought that they were tapes for the viewfinders(I was six). And the first box that I opened ( so that's why they switched to window boxes and Krege cards)I saw the yellow material of the cape(it was Robin, of course) and there it was, the first removable mask Robin! I remember my mother looking at in the car, and breaking the mask, and then telling my aunt what piece of@#$%^it was. Well, not to me, to me it was something.
Me and my brother never got along, but being that he had an Action Jackson, and he collected comic books, he knew, and we switched the clothes fom Robin to AJ. Needless to say, my still looked cool,his didn't.HA-HA
I didn't mean to digress Imp, I was lost in another time.
I'm not sure about Alexander's After the 70's, but I do know Donald Trump bought the whole kit and kaboodle in the late 80's. What it is now is anybody's guess. Progress, I think they call it.

I remember Two Guys commercials on tv but I don't think that I have ever been to one.

Alexander's? I remember them on Long Island. They were pretty much just like Great Eastern and T.S.S. (Times Square Stores).

OMG!!! Two Guys was the BEST!!!!
There was one that we went to back in the 70's located in Cheektowaga, NY. It's now the site of a Wegman's grocery store.
I absolutely LOVED going to Two Guys. At Christmas time I swear that 1/2 the store was toys! It probably wasn't 1/2 the store but seemed like it to me as a kid. My Mom & stepdad would take me and my best friend along and as soon as we got through the doors we went straight to the toy section and didn't see Mom until it was time to go. Can't do that nowadays, your kids will get kidnapped and killed by psychos.
I do remember all the Megos & GIJoe stuff piled high on the shelves. The TG's that we went to must've been in a crappy area (not too far from city line of Buffalo) because I remember tons of stuff being opened up but that just made it cooler to see what stuff was like out of the box.
Don't blow me in but I also remember helping my friend change price stickers on the Mad Monsters (boxed) because he didn't have enough money to buy them otherwise. I seem to recall marking them down to like a dollar or something each! :smiley1: Somehow I got screwed and never got my Mad Mummy. Only the other 3.
I do remember getting a Supervator for Christmas and it had been waaaaay discounted (another cool thing about TG's. They MARKED stuff DOWN!) I seem to recall it was maybe $4, if that much. I really have no idea what happened to that playset. Must've been one of the things I had to give away when we moved to AZ.
Ahhhhh, the good old days! I miss Two Guys!!

Two Guys in Hackensack, NJ -- loved that store!! For me it was the store that had everything!

And yes the good old days when your mom left you in the toy section while she shopped. I would go up and down every aisle and make lists for Santa!

Hey we still have the Blue Laws in Bergen County NJ -- no clothing purchases on Sunday. Most stores and the malls are all closed.
