    Vinyl Cape Batman with pictures

    Hello Everyone,

My name is Keith and this is my first post in a long time. I've been a Mego fan since my first figure in 1973--Removable Mask Batman. Last week, I found a loose Batman with the vinyl cape in an antique shop in Florida. The only thing he's missing is the sticker. The vinyl cape is in great shape except for a couple of small tears around the neck area. I know this is a rarer variation and I was wondering what he would be worth. I paid $15 for him, by the way. Thanks

You got ripped off. I feel bad for you so I'll give you $20 for it.

I'm kidding. I'd say nice score if it's all original. Actually it's a nice score if not.

It's hard to judge value, and on a loose figure pic's are always helpful, but $15 is a great score regardless.

I don't think I've ever seen a vinyl cape for Batman, but I'm no expert on the rarer variations. Many years ago before I found Doc Mego, I used to cut vinyl capes for items I sold on ebay in the early years. They were shinier on one side with a quarter size hole to fit over his head. They were dark navy blue and made from rain jacket material which I used to get from a local supplier that is now long since gone. I made Superman and Supergirl ones too but the Batman was by far the one I made most. I probably sold 15 to 25 of them between my old store and ebay. If you have a picture I'd love to see it. It would be too funny if it was one of mine. I haven't done one in 4 or 5 years I guess. Either way $15 in todays market is still a great deal. By the way if it is original mego, I'll give ya $25.00.

              Vinyl Cape Batman with pictures

Thanks for all the responses to my earlier post about my vinyl cape Batman. Some of you asked for pictures, so here's a few. I'm pretty sure that the cape is authentic Mego. I also added an original sticker, so he's complete now.

About 7 years ago I was buying up a few Batmans off Ebay and ended up with a vinyl cape version just by pure luck.

The cape looks real to me, but what do I know
Either way, at $15 that's a great pick up

The only caution I offer with vinyl cape Batmans is, I believe the 12" Batman came with a vinyl cape. Can anyone verify this and how similar the 12" cape might be compared to the 8" vinyl cape?

There are some differences between the 8 inch cape and the 12 inch version besides the obvious size difference. The 12 inch cape is smooth on one side and rougher on the other side. The 8 inch cape is rough on BOTH sides. The 8 inch cape is a lighter blue color also. The stitching around the neck is different as well. Here are some pictures of the two figures together. My 12 inch Batman has a transplanted Magnetic Batman head on the skinnier body.

Great pic of the 2 together.

Obviously the neck hole on the 12" one would be much, much larger also.

Great point, thanks. The neck hole is so large that the cape would barely stay on the smaller Batman's shoulders. Here's some pictures of two smaller Batman figures--one wearing the 12 inch cape and the other with the 8 inch vinyl cape.
