Mentioned in Creature remake thread are references to Dracula movies and various remakes...you all might want to check out a Willem Dafoe movie called Shadow of the Vampire. This is a really goog and dark humored movie about shooting the first vampire movie...well worth a watch and I think if you like it can be had for 5-10bucks.

Very creepy movie to say the least. One of the coolest takes on the vampire theme, IMO.

It is a great movie. I recommend watching the original Nosferatu first. This is the film that Shadow is about making. If you know the actual history like the director really was a bit nuts or that Max Shrek was a pretty mysterious guy really add to the "huh I wonder if that really happened" story.

Good point Seeker....and Nosferatu is a great film too....watch the original not the remake (although that's still good).

Shadow is a great movie, with a good sense of humour about it.
Almost feels like a "making of".
The actor of Nosferatu (Shreck) sure seemed to be one sick puppy...

Shadow of the Vampire was a really cool movie. Even though the actual filming of Nosferatu was brief and uneventful and the real Max Schreck was not really all that mysterious either. He was a fairly well known character actor in Germany.

My copy has a soundtrack by Type O Negative and it friggin' rocks the house!
I can't watch it without that soundtrack now!

Max was an odd loner with an offbeat sense of humor. He enjoyed playing grotesque roles. Which is good I suppose if your name in your native tongue means to cause terror.

His favorite pastime was to spend long hours walking around the forest near his home at night.

There was some confusion as to his actual date of birth and death.

If fact dispite his many film credits and war record so little of his personal life was known or had conflicting facts that many folks at the time thought he was acting under a pseudonym.

Soooo Was he just an odd duck with wierd habits, the victim of bad record keeping OR an undead creature of the night, bit by the acting bug, faking his actual identity ??? Da da daaaaaaaaaaa.

Shadow was a good movie, with 2 great performances, but I remember it petering out a little toward the end. It was still a good movie, though.
