My Trip to NYC (with Mego Love!)

Last week, I enjoyed an amazing trip to NYC, to visit two of my oldest and dearest friends… helping one celebrate his 40th birthday. We went into the city twice, taking time to visit geek strongholds Toy Tokyo, Love Saves the Day and Forbidden Planet. Knowing Toy Tokyo ordered multiple copies of World’s Greatest Toys from my [...]

Sounds like a great trip. Any other "geek strongholds" we should look for in NY?

Those are the three main stores I simply HAD to visit, but I know others are fond of Jim Hanley's Universe (not sure if that's the correct name; perhaps someone can confirm), as well as Midtown Comics.

I have a special fondness for Love Saves the Day, as I last visited the store 20 years ago (summer of 1988) and recall seeing Mego toys in that store, even then. I think that was the first time I'd really seen Mego toys treated as collectible ephemera. Pretty cool, and especially since I was able to score another Mego toy 20 years later!

Thanks, Austin. It was pretty jarring. In a good way. BTW, great job on your 1978 catalog submissions. Wonderful stuff!

Great story, great pictures and of course great find.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009

Too much space. Need more toys!

Yeah, its Jim Hanley's Universe. There's actually a little comic store around the corner from Love Saves The Day and Toy Tokyo called St Marks Comics. Its pretty small, but it has toys simply stacked up in the back. I'm a regular at Midtown Comics because its only 4 subway stops from place (BTW, they claim to have sold out of your book rather quickly)

Love Saves The Day is absolutely worth a visit if you're in NYC. The Megos are way oberpriced, but they have so much cool stuff to simply take in.
