This is version "Mark IV", some of you may remember the previous hand-made one I did a little over a year ago....Now it's been Dida-fied!

Still a work in progress, as I'm awaiting some more Dida pieces to finalize the construction as well as placement of certain panels. Hopefully it'll work the same way I have it worked out in my head.:smiley1:

Anway, when complete, it'll be a full carry-case placeset with fold down front cover which doubles as floor space, as well as two Dida triangles which fold out of the main shell to create more wall space.

The splash front (which will eventually be moved to the large fold down cover...right now it's in the back panel):

When the cover is folded down, the Key Door is revealed. The door, when attached, hold the 2 Dida Triangles in place inside the playset shell. When the door is removed (opened), the triangles can fold out and onto the door/floor. I still have to figure this part out.

Right side, Super-Weapons Arsenal and Trophy Room:

Right side, flip side of triangle, Interplanetary Zoo:

I'm hoping to have all of the panels in their own Dida sleeves..if that doesn't work out, then some of the artwork will be interchangeable, depending on your preference or play-mode.

Hallelujah! The upgrades are amazing! Wow, it's just packed to the rafters with cool stuff. That background pattern is wonderfully textured and ties all of the elements together. Bravo, can't wait to get the new parts to you to finish it.

There will be a Superman Chair but Supes has never had the type of accessories that a character like Batman might have.
In the first version of the Fortress, I had stand-up cut-outs of the Phantom Zone Projector and the Bottle City of Kandor. This time out I decided to just incorporate them within the panel artwork itself.

This is a drawing of the playset design I think Anthony is using. I decided to add a Big Door to my order so it's possible to make full carrying case playsets with a Dida Display. This is one form that can take.

Hey, that's pretty cool, Scott. How much do those go for?

A blank box with a big door would be $65, the triangle side wings $15 each. Art is extra depending...One of these has a lot of art in it. :juggleyes_y:

I said it elsewhere today, Anthony, and I have to say it again. Pure freaking genius.

I'm still trying to get the money up for a Dida. Hopefully by this weekend.

I like the Big Door option. Would it be possible to make the inside of the door have a floor pattern to it? The reason that I am asking is that I want the Justice HQ and the door portion would make for a nice extended meeting room.

The Toyroom
May 20, '08, 5:59 PM
I know I plan on having a floor pattern for the Fortress and I believe Scott is as well for some of his playsets.

Yes---all the surfaces have clear vinyl pockets, so you can put art just about anywhere.

The big door is 10x22, btw...

Action Martin

It's gotta match the floor of the Justice HQ.

Looks great, Anthony. One thought, if it has a handle can you make it shaped like the big key that opens the fortress?

The Toyroom
May 21, '08, 6:00 AM
The handle I got from Scott is the typical playset handle...The idea I have for the giant key is to have it on the flip side of the door panel, hanging up like Supes does when it's not in use.

Just great, Anthony.

A playset like that would have made me want to buy Superman, although he wasn't a favorite of mine as a kid.

I like the idea of a cutout accessory, though--the key or the PZ projector. Something to mirror the Batcomputer accessory--and Mego would no doubt have considered it an "added value."

It's so good it's even tortuous to discuss!

Along with that Aquacave we once bounced around
this has got to be the coolest Mego playset idea
that wasn't around back in the 8 inch days (except for the PH/CAH)

Great job on the second pass there!

Hugh,
I did the Aquacave a while back...you might have missed it:

http://megomuseum.com/community/showthread.php?t=1981&highlight=aquacave

I'll be honest---I pretended I missed it--
I thought it was best if I wasn't proactive
at getting a copy of that version

At the time you originally posted pics you hadn't contacted
me about it personally

---and when I read your description of your own
"first pass" I kinda got the idea that you were going
to eventually track down more source material
to infuse more exactly what you were going for, for
a "second pass"....so I was holding back in hopes
to see what you might do in another version---

Please keep us posted if you take another pass at
the AQUACAVE or if you think that'll be that with it.

Regardless, the one you DID post is really cool looking
and I'd still be interested at some point to
own an AQUACAVE of yours.

Thanks and again--great work on both playsets (as usual!)

Oh no. Brainiac, Lois is falling and a Big monkey is attacking the Daily Planet. This looks like a job for SUPERMAN! That really has the feel of a cool playset.
