View Full Version : Transporter Malfunction

I posted this "custom in progress" a while back and after a few changes and improvements I am calling it done. I sort of lost the inspiration along the way, as it wasn't meeting my expectations, but now I am pretty ok with the final result. I hope you like it, too.

The overhead tubes do function as lights. The main body is/was a 5 gallon bucket, everthing else I scrounged from various scraps in my shop.

The pics could use a caption, as I have poured the last of my creativity into finishing it up. Thank you for looking.

Really nice work. Great job on the transporter. I to have been flirting with a transporter off and on. Basically whenever I feel like messing with it and when a new idea hits or some new piece of material for customs is found that will suit the purpose.

Is that Kirk on steroids again? :smiley1:

hey Ronin---altho' as an adult I've never been a big fan of
the original series---as a young KID in the mid to late 70s,
I pretty much was a big fan---
your transporter/transporter room set up there really brings up
those old memories of being a fan of those specific characters
and their Mego counterparts---all because of what a great job
you did with that custom setup there---Cheers!

Looks like Kirk caught something from sleeping with all those green Orion women and it started to spread from the crotch up. :silly:

Beautiful display piece. The lights are a great touch.

Thank you for the nice comments.
My original intent was to follow the original series look but it mutated slightly as it went on. Being my first attempt at a diorama type playset, it was a great learning experience and the final result is not too embarrassing. I may continue the room later with more accurate walls and some minor color change ups. We'll see. The background walls in the photo are obviously plastic lids to some storage bins, but they did in a pinch.
I think some sort of lights shining up from the bottom would look even cooler, maybe have that 'transport in progress' look but I was unable to find ones that looked right and didn't heat up too much. Gotta keep safety in mind.

I think that is a good idea as well when and if you can incorporate that into your custom. I am amazed at how good yours look. Makes mine look sickly. On the brighter side you did give me a couple of good ideas for mine.

Safety, Smafety... If Kirk and or the crew can't stand the heat then they should get out of the kitchen/transporter room. :smiley1:

Very very cool.

"Kirk smash where no man has smashed before!"

I have trouble with good lighting for my diarama pics. Your's looks great! What type of lighting did you use?

Nothing Special. There is a regular flourescent over head, and the lights in the transporter itself have LCD lights in each of the overhead "tubes".
