hector's reading glasses thread made me wonder if anybody here has done laser eye surgery to improve their vision and get rid of glasses. i've heard some good stories AND SOME HORROR stories. any board members want to share their thoughts on the topic?

One of my closest friends had it.
He used to wear these really thick glasses, couldn't see anything, neither close or far, he was basically Mr Magoo, lol.
Well, he had the surgery. During the daytime, he now sees like a bloody eagle, perfect.
But at night, he says he sometimes sees weird lights, kinda almost like an acid trip.

No, haven't done it yet.
My father-in-law had it done years ago and it worked but he has had to have a 2nd surgery since then.

My mother in law had it done and says her sight is fantastic, and no longer needs glasses at 73. She does complain about the bright light issue when driving at night, so I guess that is a possible side effect. She rarely drives at night so for her it was a huge improvement overall.

No thanks, I'll stick with glasses. I've heard too many horror stories and read some very scary articles on what happened to some people who had the procedure done. Eyesight is too precious to screw around with. Even the FDA finally issued advisories about it, so more than a few people have apparently suffered serious side effects.

A close friend of mine also had the procedure done after having wearing Coke bottle glasses all of his younger life. His vision at that time was horrible as one may imagine. After he had the surgery he cannot keep from talking about the success of his now great eye sight.
