Made these repo boxes? They look nice but worn. This guys story sounds a bit shady to me. He just found these figures after grandpa dies? I would think if grandpa thought enough of these figures to get boxes for them he might have displayed them.

those look like Anthony's (thetoyroom) boxes to me.

If they are, you can't trust anything else the guy is saying...

Saw this on eBay this evening... what a lame story... how stupid does he think Mego collectors are?

This reminds me of a guy who made Gi Joe and Capt. Action boxes that came through here about a year ago. Didn't stay around very long. Said he made his boxes to "look rough and worn" for a vintgae look.

I remember him. I think his name was Dennis. When I first started collecting Captain Action, I bought some of his boxes and they were CRAP!!!

Fortunately, I found Anthony, and the world has been right ever since :sunny_y:

That's a pretty nervy move, it's outright fraud if he gets a sale. You can tell the pictures on the back of the boxes are from the Mego Museum. Virdon and Burke jumped out right away. That and the fact that real Apes boxes looked nothing like that.

This guy is full of crap! That IS a box design of mine that's 3 years old, tops! I do know that I sold a set to some one in the UK within the last year (Greater Manchester) but he had a different screen name and location than this guy (Birmingham). Possible that they've changed hands.

And Derek....Dennis is still out there. Saw one of his ebay auctions recently.

Ah Dennis, who could forget his boxes. This ebay listing kinda got under my skin. I can't stand people who lie for a buck.

Yeah, I saw that too this morning. The boxes stand out like a sore thumb as copies which adds serious doubt as to the credibility of the rest of the listing.

I'm bothered by the mere possibility that a person's GRANDPARENTS collected Megos . . . . .

Wow. The bid is over $400 right now.

Well, the price is still rising. I suppose as it is at the moment it`s about right for a complete set of loose figures in top condition - allow a little more for the great looking boxes but that`s it.
Are the boxes marked in way that gives them away as modern? (aside from the fact that they look nothing like the originals)

The string on the generals rifles looks dubious as well........it just gets worse.

I believe they should say: "Custom box design by www.geocities.com/thetoyroom" on the back of the box...

When I came across these, I thought they were Scott Arendsen's boxes, which would excuse the seller a bit since Scott made his boxes years ago.

But if they are Anthony's there is little doubt the seller is talking out of his other end.

Actual the custom box disclaimer is on the front of the box...black text right underneath the "recommended for children..." line:

http://i17.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/a3/56/c743_1.JPG

In the auction he's revised it to read:

Hello there me again i have had an email saying that these box's maybe what is know as reporduction i have looked on the box's and the only date i can find is 1967 it says nothing about reporduction and they do look a little worn but i just dont know anything about these sort of things. (hey please remember i was only born in 1990 and i have never seen anything like these before)...

The 1967 date he's referring to is the POTA copyright.

I just pretty much told him that in the ask a question feature. Let's see if he responds...

Geocities was founded in 1994, so he can't claim they were made before then.

Holy Smoly. I guess the high bidder doesn't know or doesn't care that those boxes are Repros. It sucks to be him.

The seller has been notified and I've been politely thanked.

Yeah same here...I e-mailed him and told him they were custom boxes, not originals, and that I should know 'cause I made them and this was his reply:

Okay i will have a look. The email had said that if they were custom boxes it would say no date but when i looked there was a date. I will check as soon as i finish work and i will revise the listing.
Thanks for your help
Luke

I see he got around to revising the listing....
