Black Manta

The boy who would become Black Manta was an autistic youth who grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and loved to play by the sea. As a youth he was kidnapped, raped, and forced to work on a ship for an unspecified amount of time. At one point he apparently saw Aquaman with his dolphin friends and tried to signal him for help but was not seen. Finally, he was forced to defend himself, killing one of his tormentors on the ship with a knife. Hating the emotionless sea (and Aquaman, whom he saw as its representative)

Love this one alot. One of my favorite characters as a child and to this day! I can hear his strange voice just looking at this AWESOME CUSTOM! I've been looking for a nice black manta custom to buy. This is the one I'd like in my collection.

I didn't know the guy was raped??!!?? That is hardcore!!! Manta has always been one of my favorite villains (Probably growing up in the Challenge of the Super Friends era).
I didn't like how the JLU combined his character with another guy and called him Devil Ray or something like that on that cartoon. I think they should have went with Black Manta, nothing wrong with it.
You keep impressing me everytime I sign in here. Keep up the good work!! I did the same thing with the "wet suit" for my Black Manta except I went pitch black.

Just FYI, the producers of JLU WANTED to use Black Manta, but DC/Warners were developing the Aquaman pilot for the WB at the time, and they put a freeze on Aquaman and his characters on JLU. That's why Aquaman isn't in any season 3 epsiodes, and why Black Manta became Devil Ray. Since he was "made up", they were able to kill him off though, something they couldn't have done if they used Manta.
