Glad to finally see it...As much as I love the Gorn I got from James...I guess I was being naive and got anxious with high expectations...I expected to see some sort of new Hulk-body hybrid instead of a skinny T2 green body.
As I look at the pic more, his calves look bigger than a T2 leg. Are the lower legs closer to what James conjured up?

Looks fine to me. A nice compromise between Captain Dunsels figure and the realities of EMCE/Diamonds need to keep these figures profitable. A completely new body mold for one character would probably drive the cost of the Gorn through the roof, or require Diamond to move a lot more product. I can live with this Gorn quite nicely. Make a fine squad of troops to be commanded by my Dunsel Gorn.

I really have to agree. It's a lot to expect an entirely new body mold for one figure. Unless you actually have the Hulk license it's hard to justify. That head is fantastic, the figure will look great with the set.

That's odd.
You already had a GORN in your possession that you really liked...
why would you get rid of it?
Hopefully we will get to see more pix soon. I'd like to see the legs more closely. I really didn't expect a Hulk body, although it would have been cool. The sculpt definitely goes a long way towards correcting a Mego mistake. Hopefully the Chinese can find a better uniform material for the production run. Great pattern, but I'd love to see more shine and pattern in the outfit.
Bravo to James and Doc (and anyone else who contributed) on making this figure the right way instead of the easy way.
Combine this with Sulu, and you have definitely made this the most anticipated release for me, even more than the Rommie. Two "new" figures at once is great. I can only hope you keep them coming in 2009. Mirror Mirror, anyone?
FYI - I'm claiming first dibs on making a Lizard custom with this figure, just to make the circle complete.

You already had a GORN in your possession that you really liked...
why would you get rid of it?
Because I knew James Brady was Sculpting the NEW one...and had faith that it would come out great.:googly: I tusted that between James...and Doc Mego...that they would get it right, and not let Me down. I now know I was mistaken.
On the bright side...I still know where to buy the Brady Gorn Kit...so I'll be making a new one. It looks like I'll be able to use parts of the EMCE one(nice soft Rotocast Head, Tunic, maybe the lower Legs?)for the new Custom.

You know what they say about: "assuming" ;)
Anyways---the reason it struck me odd is because collecting customs
is the core of my toiy collecting and my curiosity couldn't be any more
piqued than seeing somebody have a custom figure they love and then
getting rid of it....
I guess what you said as to "why" makes sense IF you were interested
in turning a profit, but that would work only IF the new figure was to your
liking----that's a few too many "IF"s for me personally to take any such
gamble---
Regardless---my empathy is with you and I wish you luck at recreating your old figure.
And I wouldn't be surprised if you snatched up this new "other" GORN too----
(for more than spare parts) as it looks pretty dang cool.
Personally, I think the new GORN looks cool, yes, but I'm more interested in
getting a SULU and a CHEKOV---they've been a long time coming.

If it's the upper body that really bothers you, try contacing Troy Younger or Fred "Blackend Kryptonite," about larger upper arms. They both have upper arms available that have a tricep and more rounded shoulders. If it's the rest of the figure you don't like...you may just want to start from scratch with the old Gorn kit.
As for myself, I think it looks alot like what Mego would have done if it weren't for all those ape bodies and Klingon suits laying around;) I did not for one second think that we would be getting a Hulk bodied Gorn from EMCE. That would be akin to expecting series accurate suits for Kor and Kang when they already have Klingon suits available.
I still want to to customize the Hulk/Gorn, but in all likelihood I will be picking one of these up.

Maybe...but some LJN type Arms would have worked better...and it shouldn't have cost all that much more to produce?

Based on your calves. Hmmm. Now I'm really scared...:juggleyes_y:
But what puzzles me: The Mugato is a replica of the original Mego (aka Disco Stu Monkey), while the Gorn gets the realistic treatment. Why not make a nice white fluffy suit for our favourite ape?
Or give the Cheron the Frank Gorshin look?

The head looks nice, still not very show acurate, but it will do. The outfit looks way to crappy and cheap. I dont think Mego would have gone so cheap if they would have done it show acurate. The body needs to go, it looks way to thin and does distract from the over alll image of the figure. The mego company invested in new molds when the need arose. EMCE perhaps needs to invest a little more $$$ perhaps the cost will be a few $$$ more to us, but it would move the product better and give us a better figure. Seems like EMCE has had a decent start with their figures, however, this one seems to not be one of their best. Maybe, Once I see the finished product, it will be a different story. Time shall tell.

A little harsh don't you think???
Nothing Mego did was "Show accurate" if you want to get right down to it. This new Gorn fits in just nicely with what was made, anything more elborate will look totally out of place and won't belong in the Mego esq world.
The body is perfact as the real gorn was not bulkey and muscular as already shown. The Hulk body just does not work for the Gorn and looks totaly out of place, people are just too used to seeing the custroms done with a body that should'nt have been used in the first place.
The only thing that would top it off is if EMCE went with fabric sleeves and legs, AKA WGSH style instead of going sleeveless then i would totally fit in with the Mego world.

Re: Show Accurate: This is Mego-style, not Sideshow Collectibles. I think this is actually a beautiful Mego style interpretation of the TV character.
Re: The Mego company invested in new molds: Hello, the Mego company sold MILLIONS of figures. They produced them in massive quantities and sent big cases of them to major stores all over the country. This is a small company selling to a small niche market. Producing an entirely new body mold for one character would be foolish. And in this case, uneccessary.

Exactly, I don't want show accurate. I want Mego accurate.
I want figures that fit in with the original line and look like something Mego could of have done in the 70s. The EMCE Gorn looks like I would imagine Mego could have done had they given the character the care they did figures like the Andorian and Romulan.
