Ben,

I just wanted to let you know that there has not been a day that has gone by since I received your book on Christmas Day 2007 that I have not perused it at least a half dozen times.

There have been many, many, many times I have wanted to email you or post a thread or send you a pm telling you how happy this silly little book has made me, but for some reason I have not been able to put it into words. Well, enough already. You need to know how much I appreciate your work and this book whether or not I say it the way I want to say it or not.

Too many times in life we do not let people who contribute to our happiness know how important they are and how happy they make us feel; whether it is our spouse, our children, the lady who serves me coffee in the morning or even the author of my favorite book.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I anxiously await every new post and every new blog and every new email you send me. And, even though I may not have time to post a reply or send a return email, I want you to know that everything you are doing does NOT go unappreciated or unrecognized.

So, "Thank You" Benjamin Holcomb for making this grown man fell like a little kid again.

Austin

PS And I am sure that I am not the only one who feels this way.

Amen, Amen, Brother Austin!

This book is so incredibly awesome that I recently found my wife, the woman who enjoys neither action figures nor comics (and still the love of my life, God bless her), reading "World's Greatest Toys". It could be because I have kept the book in the living room since I got five months ago, perhaps because I love it and she loves me, but I think it's just the infectious nature of the book. She was fascinated not by the toys themselves, but the awesome amount of detail in the book. We've had conversations about "skinny boots" and "one sided shiny gloves", Circle Suit Spideys, and, of all things that suprised me, Aquaman. Sure, I've talked about these before, but my collection is limited (I cycle through a ton of figures but few remain in my permanent collection), but Ben brings detailed information and hi-res pictures that all of my blathering couldn't really define as well.

My wife has told me that after a dozen years of marriage and toy collecting that after browsing through Ben's book that she has begun to understand why my RC Batman was "not complete" without "skinny boots", a paper emblem, and a translucent belt, and why I prefer the 1979 cards to the "scowly faced" ones of 1975-1978. These are conversations that I might never have had without the wonder that Ben's book holds between its covers. It is a true treasure.

All hail the Holcomb!

I'm not ashamed to admit that reading this thread caught me by surprise and made me a little misty.

Thank you Austin, Scott and Derek, for your generous words. It really means a lot to me.

I'm also thrilled to learn that you CONTINUE to derive pleasure from the book. That is probably the highest praise the book could receive.

Sincerely, thanks for making my day.

I have one on my desk at work, it never fails to catch the attention of the artists there. I'm always proud to say I know the author.
