I have a few more bits in pieces that are either recently received, on their way, or in the queue to buy in the next few weeks. Seeing the new forum and other people's stuff kick-started my drive to get my collection organized and filled in to match what I envisioned it being when completed.

Those are fashion doll bodies they are using. Lots of give aways. The click knees, rubbery feet, bent elbows and small hands not really meant to hold accessories. The bodies are designed that way to make them easy to dress. Looks like an 80s era knock off Ken bod.

Right now he enjoys playing with the Godzilla/King Kong vs Rampage and having the Corps go after them. He just got in for chistmas the Wal-mart FAKE Jurassic Park set & with the others my living room becomes a battle field with the big JP T-Rex. I just want so real joes because some of the Corps do not bend well.

Picked up the last of the 12 inch Convention Sets after chasing them down for years. Also, there are a bunch of items for sale on the GI Joe Collectorís website right now. I collect the 12 inch items and a few nice loose convention set extras were just added today along with a lot of 3 3/4 inch figures

I had pretty heavily collected the 25th anniversary line back when it came out but I missed this set. I don't think my Target even got it. I never had a MOBAT so I was pretty excited to finally get one and as an added bonus I now have HISS tanks in three different colors.

I stopped collecting vintage GI Joes. Between Convention items, Anniversary sets, etc. I am not sure paying a premium for the vintage set is worth it since the reproductions are exact replicas. I have a few of the vintage items and comparing them next to a GI Joe Club reproduction or JoeCon...there isn't much of a difference to pay extra. Plus, there are some really interesting sets that go for big money as repros because they are unique. For example the Aged Adventurer which is AT figure with balding head can easily top $300 and I am chasing a few Joelanta Joes and they always seem to go for big money because there were not many made and they don't show up on the secondary market very frequently.....I am still after a few like the Zeppelin Captain which is just an awesome figure but very hard to find and when they do show up...large $$$

I recently got the talking Navajo Code Talker GI Joe. Unfortunately, he doesn't talk. He was still in the box, but he was released way back in 1997, so he is over 20 years old. (It's strange to think that these newer Joes are now old themselves! lol) Anyway, I changed his batteries, but nothing. Pressed the back button, lifted his arms--nothing. The inside battery compartment is clean and not corroded. I haven't taken him apart yet. There are screws on his back. Does anyone know if these newer modern talking Joes are easy to fix? I searched online but only found how to repair the older 70s talking Joes.

Speaking of reproductions, I got this from ebay a few days ago: The 2004 Target Timeless Collection repro of the 1964 footlocker and action figure. I made the seller an offer for what I was willing to pay for it, and to my surprise, he accepted my offer, so I'm happy. Usually, they will counteroffer.

What color is the Aquanaut locker? I have a repro Adventurer and Astro Locker. Thanks! Much appreciated!

That backs up a theory I had. I noticed the red of the Adventure Locker matched the red "GI JOE" on the 1964 Action Soldier and Action Marine boxes and the Astro Locker's blue matched the Action Pilot's blue "GI JOE". Based on that, I wondered if the Aqua Locker might be the teal color of the Action Sailor's "GI JOE". Apparently, it is probably close enough to go with that theory.

that would be easy with a Adventure locker repro set and some yellow paint along with an old locker. Just plain yellow with a big AT emblem on he lid? Use the Adventure locker inside litho and it matches with a original tray. I end up with a lot of spares off ebay.

I really like the red top box 1969 sets. I luckily have all of the figures in their coffin boxes.

These below are the among toughest to find.. The AA tagged box, and the alternate uniform AA figure as well.

https://photos.smugmug.com/Hobbies/GiJoe/i-kf28Jw4/0/1617ddaa/L/IMAG0733-L.jpg

In my opinion the boxed Aquanaut is harder to find than the AA version.

I have a regular boxed '69 figure and a boxed talking Astronaut with the cloth cap not pictured.

This is the only boxed '69 set I have.

Those were all hard fought for boxes you see there. The aquanaut and AA Adventurer box were both from the original owner, but were both from different collections. I worked that AA Adventurer box for what seems like a year before I was able to buy it. It came from someone in Canada, and I got a teal Airborne set from that same person. The Aquanaut I found on Etsy of all places a couple of years ago. I was so worried about it being mailed to me, sweated bullets until it arrived.

Good question!

The Aquanaut is all original, the figure is what came in that box. I didn't swap anything on it at all, super pleased with it.

The 69 AA box was just the box top, no figure, but I had a correct 69 bottom and a figure ready for it. I mentioned I got a teal Airborne from that person as well, but I now remembered that was a tan Airborne MP set. Almost 10 years ago I think.

I will admit up front that all of my boxes are reproductions, but I have been able to rotate in authentic clothes (and they weren't when I started) and that makes me hopeful that on a long enough time line, I will make it to where I want my collection to be.

If I can get originals to fill in the blanks, well, that makes me happy.....but I love a facsimile that makes me forget the small details in favor of "THIS IS WHY I LOVED THIS!!".

What is your favorite '69 set, folks?

Mine: Mouth of Doom

Set wise?...Yeah, Mouth of Doom is hard to beat. You can see how they combined "we might be stuck with this!" into....."what a beautiful set!"

Oh I feel funny sharing pictures sometimes of the stuff I find interesting. My wife's not real interested, and my kids, especially my daughter calls them dollies. :)

I may have another picture to show tomorrow or Saturday. Nothing as cool as the 69 stuff, but something vintage I've been trying to piece together for a few years now.

Anything you have to share will give me ideas.

Makernaut, I'm looking forward to seeing what you're going to show us.

Etsy is actually a diamond in the rough when it comes to vintage Joes. I got my Bulletman from there without his arms for 50 bucks. Was surprised to get his outfit in halfway decent shape in the deal. Only thing that was a total loss was his helmet and boots.

I agree, I also bought a triple TM first issue soldier box, with the original all brass rivets Joe inside it on Etsy a number of years ago. It's one of my favorites. If you can believe, it arrived on Christmas Eve, and the person that sold it to me sent it in a mailing envelope. :enraged: I went to our mailbox and nearly fainted seeing the Joe coffin sized bulge in the envelope. It was indeed a Christmas miracle as the box wasn't damaged at all and contents were perfect.

Mine: Mouth of Doom. Usually I would gravitate towards Eight Ropes or Shark's Surprise, but MoD's unique accessories and sarari suit grab me.

Mouth of Doom for sure. I don't even have mine on display at the moment, shelves are too crowded. Maybe I should pull it out.

Here's what I've been working on forever it seems.

Jettison to Safety 1975-76

On a Muscle Body Joe. The tan pants and shirt are late issue and specific to this set. This included parts from the earlier sets, the Rocket Pack and the Thermal Terrain Scanner. But in different colors. The rockets are silver in this version, and white in the Rocket Pack set. The Thermal Terrain Scanner is red in this version and a brown color in the earlier set.

Overall this is a weird mix-match of sets, but I think it's cool.

I got excited when you mentioned 3rd Son's repro footlockers because I had been working on filling the ones I picked up for a while now. Just hadn't snapped any pictures and couldn't tip my hand at that time. :smiley1:

Still need a plasma bottle and a black paddle, but this is close enough to complete.

I still have a little ways to go on my GI JOE 1969, but here are a few snaps of what I have so far. The lockers are repros from 3rd Son Books. I have stickers to make an Aqua Locker out of a repaint to a military era foot locker. Haven't quite got that finished.

It's great to see all this, they look good! Thanks for posting. I just have the Aqualocker--the Aquanaut is my favorite, too.

I was just chatting with 3SB about the adventure locker, as I have a Club repro Adenturer. What are you using for the tan cap--Cotswold? If so, is it good? My repro figure has a repro Hasbro tan cap.

I've never thought about filling the Astro locker--it's challenging to get a mine detector or even a repro astronaut suit.

Makernaut
Apr 11, '20, 5:37 PM
^ Yes. Tan cap is from Cotswold. I had to do just a little bit of reshaping with hair dryer heat and pressure while it cooled to the piece I got, but it came out nice. If I find an original, I'll swap it in, but I am okay with the Cotswold version. The pants are original ones that I found on eBay.

3SB and Cotswold are both excellent to deal with and I am glad they both exist! I missed out on their Aqualocker. It was sold out by the time I found 3SB.

So, I have two Troubleshooters and one I'm converting into an Atomic Man vehicle. (The other I'll probably list here to sell). I buffed out a scratch on the hood and it left a divot, but I'm going to drill a hole there for a radar dish. The AT seismograph plastic matches the vehicle body and I may put it in the back as a cyber-monitor.

The green Action Man Power Hog I nabbed will get some new stickers as a MARS ATV for the Man of Evil.

I'm finding the Joes very therapeutic lately.

New thermal scanner, because I envied drquest. I think it's a great accessory. I'm bashing a whole Joe around it.

I hear that all the time. I'm going to do an orange jersey and tan or brown trousers, brown boots.

I need to decide what extras I want to throw in--flare gun, knife, walkie-talkie? I used to have a lot of 40th bits, but doing figs like this has depleted my stash.

You know, if I found a nice Rocket Pack, it might look good on my custom AT pilot.

I've got a Magnetic Flaw Detector, well the piece that you have Joe hold. I need all the other pieces so those aren't easy to come by. My guess is it's because of it also being part of Danger Ray Detection.

I've been cobbling together the 1970-1973 Adventure Team recently. Finally replaced the Talking Man of Action I had as a kid and picked up a blonde Man of Action to easily distinguish between the talker and non-talker. Got some repro shoulder holsters and AT dog tags from Cotswold to complete the Adventurer, Air Adventurer, and Sea Adventurer I've had for the last year. Now, I am only a Talking Black Commander, Talking Astronaut (fuzz head) and Land Adventurer away from having the set completed. I'll get some nice repro boxes for them at some point.

Most recently, I got a 40th Anniversary Action Man Liverpool Footballer set from Cotswold because I've always thought the footballers were cool looking sets and I had no Action Man stuff.

Just completed my filled 1969 Adventure locker, courtesy of Paul at 3rd Son Books and a little diligence on my part. It's fun. My repro Adventurer even has a proper ribbed t-shirt.

I may do an Astro locker if I can find parts cheaply enough. It's not nearly as interesting to me, but now that I have the other two...

Sounds like a great deal! You could get maybe half your money back selling the Bulletman arms.

Ironically I was looking for something in my garage yesterday and found a bag of three Muscle body GiJoes I had forgotten about. One Eagle Eye and one talker that still works. All of the body parts are there too. I really don't remember when I got those, LOL...

Looks like I need a good left hand(as one of mine is missing a finger), or I'll take a left forearm with good hand if anyone has an extra one.
