We had Zaryes in south Florida. I remember a wall of Black Hole and Buck Rogers figures and I do mean a wall of them. Also the first place I saw ET merchandise show up and it seemed to linger around on clearance for what seemed like years.
Zayre was one of three major discount retail chains in the area of southern New England were I mostly grew up. Bradlees and Caldor were the other two, but their were Woolworths around too, just not as many or as prominent. Wal*Mart an dTarget were unheard of in the area until much, much later, after these had all become defunct.

I miss Zayre's so much. Ames bought them out, ran the stores into the ground, and I was super happy when Ames went out of business.
Actually it was the other way around Ames bought them and that caused them to go out of bussiness. Zarye's corp is still around but known by their current name TJX corp. lol
