Been awhile for me, but here's my first custom for 2008. This is probably the quickest custom I have ever done. Nothing particularly fancy about it but I think the Dark Lord of Apokolips came out well (at least by my standards).

Yeah I was basing him on a combination of both the Super Powers and the Mattel JLU Animated version.

The head is an "angry bald scientist" (aka Conan) head from Doc Mego which I sanded down and sliced up to give it the face scarring effect. The helmet is a black knight helmet cut in half also from Doc which I glued in place.

Good job! This almost has a megoish feel to it. I made my Darkseid from a over sized DC direct figure and got about the same results as you did.

Love those gloves. Where did they come from?
ingenious use of the Conan head, too.

Everything used on this one came from Doc Mego.

It's amazing how versatile that head is - I used it on my Tarantula a couple of weeks back.
Great first custom of 08 (now that we are 4 months into it). Surely we won't have to wait another 4 months for the next one??

Here is another pic without the cape. I can't decide whether to use the cape or not.

Get rid of the cape. That was some Super Powers/era gimmick. I rarely see him wearing that. Looks good without it!
Take his skin tone a shade darker. Maybe use fabric paint on the arms and legs to get it to match when you change the face tone and he would look intensely wild! (not saying it don't look great!) Love your work Pastor Scott!

Ok following some really good suggestions from Wrath - here is the final version (I hope).

There we go Pastor Scott!
I know a lot of people on here shun fabric paint and think I am turd because I use it a lot when I design custom costumes.
Frankly, I don't have the money or time to buy predesigned silk screen outfits from some of my friends on here. I am also a artist and have more fun make them. :)
But.....go to your local hobby store. Pick up some mild gray fabric paint (Scribbles might be one of the brands) slightly dab it on the fabric (don't dowse it) and it will take the glitter off the fabric and add a texture and match the face.

I usually work with dye's rather than fabric paint. So I've darkened the suit using a quick dark dye job instead. I like the glitter effect it seems to give him a little more density. But now I think he's done. I don't want to overthink him too much or I'll end up destroying him :smiley1:

There you go! You must have changed the picture. That looks pretty cool.
If you dye suits. A little darkening on the blue wouldn't hurt.

this is the first Darky i've seen megosized, i did it time ago but on a toybiz 9' body...good idea...and pretty cool...the only thing...he sound a bit too slim, but your solution sound really megolike, compliments!:please_y::yes:

I was planning on making him bigger originally but after a lot of thought I decided that all Mego's are essentially 8" tall no matter who the character is. Penguin and Mxyzptlk are supposed to be much smaller but they are just as tall as everyone else. Superman and Captain Marvel should be considerably taller than a lot of the other characters also. I had also thought about perhaps using a Hulk or Thing body but decided against it because it would be too difficult to swap out the hands and legs to allow for boots and gloves. Plus they always seemed too small in comparison to the others.
So using that logic I kept Darkseid at the standard 8" Mego height just for conformity purposes.

i really understand your thought , in fact the result is very megoish, so compliments again
