SSP Racers

Who had these? I only had the little Citgo Gas Station promo version, but I loved it all the same. I thought I was such big stuff walking into Kindergarten w/ my Citgo blue Laker Special. We all used to sing that Smash Up Derby commercial until our teachers begged us to stop!:smiley1: Now I have 3 Citgo racers, (red and blue Laker specials and a green Can Am). I keep losing the auctions for the standard size ones though, but I won't give up.

Any SSP fans out there? Anybody?

I had a Laker Special from the gas staion too and also another one I believe was called "Double Trouble" or something like that. I also had both the Smash Up Derby sets, the one with two cars and the one with the VW Beetle and the pick up truck. Those things were awesome and fueled a young child's need for destruction! I just got a copy of the original commercial for the Smash Up Derby with that great song - Wham! Bang! Smash 'em up! Put 'em back again!

I loved SSPs when I was a kid! The last one I bought must have been around 1975. Ah, the good ol' days.

I used to have the Smash-Up Derby.
Actually, I think I had two different versions of it with different cars.

Didn't have the Smash Up Derby (my cousin did though) but I did have 2 SSPs....I love those things! Are they hard to acquire now?

I loved those as a kid! Can't remember which ones I had but remember having a blast with them. Always wanted the Smash Up Derby set but never got it.

i still have my laker special, one of the few toys from my childhood. the rubber is worn off the wheel so it doesn't work too well. I tried to fix it with plasti-dip (it'll fix anything, right?)
I think every kid on our block had an SSP, we had a blast playing with them!

Those were fun! ... thinking back, I may have preferred my less portableTTP car (Turbo Tower of Power).

Wow I haven't thought of SSPs or Smash Up Derby toys in years! I forgot all about them. My brother and I had both growing up. SSPs were our favorites, but I can't remember which we had.

I remember getting an SSP car from Jamesway-(Dept Store).... but the T-stick was missing when I opened the package......

I went back to the store, dug through a package..... and rippped one off to replace my- missing one :)

I had an SSP Star Wars van and a green Barracuda with flames. I should still have them packed away in my parents attic.
