I needed a break from some of the more involved customs that I'm currently working on and went for some quick, yet essential custom Megos I need for my collection.
Hot of the workbench it's Captain Marvel & Superman!
Although I love Captain Marvel, I never really liked the Mego version. I wanted to do one closer the original Mego box art.
The heads are from eBay with paint jobs by me, The bodies are from Zica and the costumes are FTC Justice League. These costumes are now available loose at CTVT. The Shazam! costume fit is a bit wonky, especially around the belt area. I might try an FTC or EMCE body to see if I can get a better fit. I'd hate not to use a Zica body so I may just live with it.
I tried some new things with the heads this time around. Instead of mixing my own flesh tone I went with Testors Model-Master Acrylic Paint (skin tone warm, flat #4603). I like it, I think it worked out really well. On my previous customs, I was so hung up with matching the color of the heads with the color of the bodies I was using. Now looking back on those figures I want to repaint all their heads, they look kinda sickly.
I also experimented with adding some basic tone to the cheeks. I think it adds a bit more life to the faces without losing that Mego-like quality that I'm after.
Now the long wait for custom boxes before I can truly call them finished.
I hope you like them!
