    dalek question

I recently purchased an 8" Dr Who Dalek with thought of using it with Mego-scale customs. It stands exactly the height of a t2 mego and looks ENORMOUS side by side with one.
Is there a Dalek out there closer in scale? How about it Who fans?

    That's a good question .....

To be in proper proportion to an 8" Mego, i'd say the Dalek should be about chin-high... which would be about 7-1/2"

I measured this Dalek Sec and he is about 5" so he maybe a bit small for your custom?

        Nutty thought,

        Like a 12" head that's been shrunk .......
Or a small head that's been enlarged .......

I wonder if an entire existing Dalek toy can be made to proper "8 scale.

what you need is the Product Enterprise talking Dalek. The Troughton is 7" and is being supported by the sucker arm..

                  Hmmmm....

I got a bunch of the old Comet Miniatures model Daleks. They're perfect. They're also kind of expensive nowadays and they're not kits for beginners. I had a helluva time getting them together. (I haven't painted them yet, either.)

The Comet Daleks are 1/8 scale, a little bigger than Mego scale.

                      Is that the money bank?

I've got one of the new style Daleks and Cybermen which contained bubble bath. Both are bigger than Mego scale.

I'm glad you posed this question. I had been planning on grabbing an 8" Dalek for the same purpose. Seeing it next to the figure though, it is a bit too large, isn't it?...

Ian, are the Product Enterprise Daleks the radio controlled ones? Or are they the 12"?

The Product Enterprise Dalek looks the right size. It's too bad the supply has dried up. I wonder if they could be cast and copied to make extra? I was considering getting the Money Bank Dalek. It looked the same scale as well.

Officially, yes; but they're actually the right size. Just a smidge shorter than a Mego fig. (Maybe 3-5mm or so.)

One of the problems with model kits is that the notion of scale is an absolute; BUT it often doesn't translate to the finished product. Measurement mistakes by the sculptor, machining difficulties, slips in reduction of the original... all can throw the final product off-scale. Which can be a REAL pain if you're looking for Mego scale stuff. An 8" Mego figure is properly 1/9 scale; but you can often find 1/8 scale stuff that either IS the right size, or close enough.

....but the Comet Daleks; THEY rock! That new Dalek looks about right too.
