    Hasbro Super Joe Concept Art

Long ago, I saw these amazing pieces of original Super Joe concept art on Ebay, I regretted not putting a bid in and never got even proper shots of them for the site.

As luck would have it, the winner of the auction was none other than my pal John "Toyzilla" Marshall and he graciously offered to share them with the world.

These pieces appear to be drawn by comics legend Nick Cardy and depict Super Joe punching out what I can only guess is a rough concept of Gor: King of the Terrons.

He's Joe and early version of the Shield knocking the wind out of Gor again. I can't say enough about this great artwork, I'm smitten.

Thanks again to John for this awesome share. Nothing like some newly discovered 70s joy.

Those are great pieces. I wonder if Super Joe will ever see a revival for a new generation?

Thanks for posting this. He's still one of my all time favourite toys I own ever since my grade 6 teacher gave me one.

That's very cool. The art style reminds me of the covers of coloring books from the 70s and 80s.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Super Joe was great, the light-up power vests and powered accessories were pretty simple yet still seem high-tech, even when compared to todays action figures. And it was always fun to play with light-up toys in the dark when I should have been sleeping,

Fantastic artwork! You can definitely see the beginnings of what would become Gor in the drawings, it's wonderful to see a part of his evolution like this.

Beautiful! What incredible pieces of a classic collection to have. I so wish that line had continued, but it was all about timing. Star Wars just took everything down back then. It was a very cool line.

                  Those are fantastic.

Super Joe fans should check out the 3D Super Joes page ( www.3dsuperjoes.com ). We've added a section for custom figures and fan photos and there is a lot of Super Joe creativity on display there.

Oh wow, I LOVE Nick Cardy! He was all over the 70s, of course at DC, doing almost every cover for a period mid-decade. He also did a lot of movie posters and concept art, including designing the famous Christopher Reeve Superman image where he's pointing upward! This just adds to his iconic status!

                        Thanks for sharing!
