Surf's Up!

I realize that some of us don't like to buy variant figures, I get that.
However, this should be an exception.

For starters, I'm not really sure what FTC is doing differently but these figures seem to be better built than those in the past.
I say this because I stood each of them up to take photos and I didn't have to fight with them to keep them standing, there was no falling down.
Also, it looks to me that the paint applications on both the Joker and Batman are much better than wave 1.
I especially like the highlights in the Joker's hair.

I'll be the first to say that I have NEVER been a fan of female Mego figures and I came close to passing on this Barbara Gorden figure because I didn't like the way that she looked in the online photos that I saw.
While I'm still not a huge fan of female figures, I have to admit that she looks far better in person.

Chief O'Hara may just be my favorite of this wave.
I would have preferred if his sunglasses were made of plastic but they're paper.
A sticker actually but it seems like the paper is sturdy enough to hold up.

The surfboards are made of a hard rubber.
My Daughter has the Mattel "Surf's Up" series and these boards look much more accurate to the TV show.

My only 2 complaints with this wave are,...

1. I wish that they could do Commissioner Gorden because Duke looks out of place without Buzzy but I understand that this isn't FTC's fault.
2. I wish that they would have included Dick Grayson in this wave.

Other than that, I'm very happy with my purchase.

I just noticed that FTC updated their store pages. They now have (prototype) pics of the packaged figures.
The packages seem to be the same size as usual, but with a different shaped bubble so that the board fits in it?
And the name of the figure is on the left side instead of above the figure.
Very nice.

So Barbara doesn't come with a board but with a bag?

Babs looks like a bobble head. FTC really needs to get over that body and do something better. The big head isn't helping.

Wow, they look great. I saw them last fall while at FTC in Tampa. I thought O'Hara was awesome!

I just got these the other day ,along with wonder twins,monkees .Love them ,funny episode .the surf boards kinda make the packages a little
heavy .nicely done ,Even though Barbara didnt have a surf board in the episode and was just eye candy on the beach ,they should have given
her a board too,or at least a beach blanket,she just has this little plastic beach bag .all of them are excellent ,they should add a dick and commish to
the assortment .Kuddos ftc. Cant help but wonder if they will do the monkees with surf boards to join the party.

I got the figures today. Here are some quick photos of the packaged figures:

I really appreciate that they come in basically the same packaging than the other ones.
As a MOC/MIB collector I like when a line keeps using the same style packaging for all the figures.



As you can see, the packaging is also the same size as usual:



As always, the likenesses aren't perfect.



I think Barbara's head looks bigger in the picture than it does in person. But the shape of the head is a bit weird because of the hair style.
The FTC female body looks a bit strange and since she only wears a bathing suit it's really obvious.

The chief probably looks better in person than on this photo.
What's definitely not accurate is his hat. I recently watched the episode again and he should have gotten a smaller hat.

THey aren't bad loose and on display. Barbara actually looks better than appears here; the head is big, but most of these are a bit oversized, she's not absolutley ginormous by comparison, but she is pushing it a bit. Her swimsuit turned out surprisingly well. O'Hara is the real standout to me, simply because they really nailed the likeness on him. The main problem is the boards; the fin on each sticks out past the end of the board, so they are really hard to stand up. especially with the really soft plastic/outright rubber they are made from. Still a nice, episode specific set with some iconic variants well worth getting.
