Conan isn't owned by Marvel.
Tarzan might go into that area too i think even.
So there ya go first two for WGSH EMCE Repros
Conan and Tarzan :-)

That would be very, very cool. When I was a kid a good friend of mine had a mego conan. This was well before I even knew what a mego was. I loved chopping down other figures with that big battle axe.

That's brilliant.
I'm new here so it might have been discussed before, but that would be great.
Might be easier to get the rights/license than the Marvel & DC.

Technically those two characters are owned by even bigger companies and even more stubborn then Marvel or DC could ever imagine. It would probably be a nightmare for Paul (Dr. Mego) to try and get licensing rights to produce action figures for Tarzan or even Conan. I am pretty sure Dr. Mego had to jump through a ton of hula hoops and red tape to get the rights to produce those Star Trek figures and I am sure it wasn't easy. If I am wrong, I am sure he'll correct me if he sees this. :smiley1:
You want a Tarzan or Conan figure? I am pretty sure Dr. Mego could slap one together for you with all the parts he has laying around. You should give him a call.

"If" they're able to produce a CONAN figure, let's hope that he doesn't have an oversized head like the MEGO one has.

Both characters are currently being published in comics by Dark Horse, so they must not be that difficult to deal with.

If they do Tarzan and Conan, I'd prefer exact replicas. Would be cool.

In addition, there's that Marvel Legends style Conan 2 Pk, so obviously they're open to toy licenses. Of course that appears to be a peg-warmer at my Wal-Mart so maybe not...

They might sell as part of the WGSH group, but I doubt they'd sell well on their own. So unless you get the rights to produce DC and Marvel characters I don't see why anyone would wanna put up the cash for these

There was an issue of Back Issue magazine that came out a couple of years back and it featured accounts from Roy Thomas and some others stating that is was very hard dealing with the ERB estate in regards to Tarzan.

Neca Has the Rights to make the Arnie Conan figures,.. not sure if that affects the Comicbook License.

Its that dang "naked" body design that everyone raves about that creates
that optical illusion---like I've said before Conan needs a bodysuit baby!

Nah, his head is a bit oversized no matter how ya slice it... Conan wearing pajamas isn't gonna fix that.
Plus, when he's decked out in his attire, he looks alright... It's when he's nude that he looks terrible.

I am not comfortable with how any of my figures look nude. It does pose an interesting question though, why did tarzan get the skin color suit, but conan didn't??? I am guessing because of the gauntlets, they don't fit over a suit??? Just curious.

I love the Conan figure the way he is. I would love it if they did some other characters from Conan if they did do Conan. Tazan I don't care about really. I have him but never really cared about him either way.

Then, may I ask, why complain about him if you think he looks fine as Mego
designed him to look with his stuff on?
And as far as "pajamas" go---"pajamas" comes off as a negative term---
if that's your intent, so be it---but it was quite a standard choice for them
throughout production to solve characters "flesh parts" by covering them--
personally, I prefer that---it gives them a more uniform look (covering joints
and such) plus a nice 70s cheesy Mego vibe, again, in my opinion.
Plus, I think you'd you be surprised at how much more imposing IN SIZE
a Mego figure is when a bodysuit is added.
I know I've noticed a difference firsthand.

That can be answered by the changing over of body types to something
more muscular once CONAN was released---personally, I still think it was a poor decision.
I love the TYPE 2 body and all---but I still think Mego was pushing it
asthetically by leaving CONAN "bare"....MAYBE if they would went a tad bigger
with the new body sculpt I'd be more apt not to feel this way.

Who's complaining?
I said I think his head is slightly bigger than it needs to be. You commented that they should have put him in the bodysuit (which I referred to as pajamas and still will) to which I replied that he looked alright in his attire. Where is there "complaining"? I could equally say that you're "complaining" because you're lamenting the fact that they didn't put him in the beloved bodysuit. (And yes, I know you said it was your opinion, just as what I said is mine.)
To make you happy, I suppose I should have said that he looks more "in proportion" when he's in his attire on.

Perhaps we could get a repro Conan with a new Kull the Conqueror. And how cool would it be to get a repro Tarzan with a new John Carter?

Tarzan had a tan bodysuit to cover his metal rivets - DC had the
license from ERB and may have asked for the bodysuit or Mego
may have thought it would keep the lioncloth piece on better.
When Conan was made in 1975, the type 2 body looked better
and popular culture had changed a bit, so Marvel - holding the
Conan license from Robert E. Howard's estate - may have not
demanded the bodysuit.
Or Mego made all the decisions on the look of both characters.
Marty's mother was in charge of costumes in the early '70s.
Maybe someone else was doing it by 1975.
Edgar Rice Burroughs estate and Robert E. Howard's estate did
not like that the Mego figures were made without a new license
directly from them, so after that, both licensors have made
very specific licensing agreement.

I believe that Todd McFarlane Toys also makes Conan figures.

You know, this whole dilemma could have been resolved in '75 if MEGO had used the same body as they used on the OMBC figures. They had it available for the cavemen, so why they didn't use it for CONAN is beyond me. It is larger than the T2 body and I'm sure they could have easily incorporated the OMBC's "throwing arm" into the marketing for CONAN. (Or, they could have just eliminated the throwing arm aspect and made the caveman body as a "standard" body of that size.)

Wow a John Carter mego. That had never occured to me. The many denizens of Mars would make a fantastic line up!

Personally I hope that EmCe or even Castaway goes with Flash Gordon. I'd love to see Alex Raymond's newspaper strip characters done in the Mego fashion (again).
