HELP NEEDED! Renovating/Customizing Mego Starsky Torino

I've just (FINALLY) purchased a Palitoy Mego Torino ('boxed' YEYyy high-five!)

    Windshield pretty damaged
Missing Roof-light (the light that fixes on top of the roof)
    Missing a steering wheel

    So here's what I'm thinking..

Cut out a piece of clear plastic using original windshield as a template
Wait it out looking for a Roof-light whilst thinking up a way to improvise
Find a RC car Steering Wheel of the right dimensions

    So really my questions are:

Is there a better option for a replacement Windshield than my above plan?
What dimensions should I go for for the Steering Wheel? 1/10th scale? 1/12th? sounds too big to me but that's what the scale guide tells me for a 13inch car
Also (bonus question) I'd like to add wing/door mirrors (obviously ones that stay true to the look) so if any of you know a good angle there that'd be great

    Excuse my Noobidity

    Any advice most appreciated

Maybe you might find a small red light you could use at an electronics store (radio shack or the like).
Windshield maybe clear plastic from a 2 litre bottle or small plastic from craft store.

Thanks Fallensavior, Yes AAAAA kindly pm'd me with a few ideas, tipped me off about the clear 1/10 RC shells that might give me a pretty good Windshield replacement, pointed me to a great Steering Wheel too, found a great little range of 1/10 Beacon Lights, will post pics of progress
