Happy New Year!
In the 2000s, the Purple Man (real name Zebediah Killgrave) emerged as an enemy of Jessica Jones and her husband Luke Cage. His body produces pheromones which allow him to verbally control the actions of others. He is played by Scottish actor David Tennant in the 2015 Netflix series Jessica Jones.
Purple Man first appeared in Daredevil #4 and was created by Stan Lee and Joe Orlando. A physician turned international spy, Killgrave was sent to infiltrate a chemical refinery. During the mission, he was accidentally doused with a chemical that turned his hair and skin purple. Caught outright and questioned, Killgrave offered a weak, inadequate alibi to his captors. Much to his surprise, he was believed and released. Several more incidents of this nature demonstrated that the nerve gas had given Killgrave the superhuman ability to command the wills of other people. Calling himself the Purple Man, Killgrave embarked on a criminal career.
I had no plans on making this character until I was inspired by Tennant's performance in "Jessica Jones". I was truly caught up in this series and was inspired to make an amalgam if you will of the comic book version and the live-action version.
Killgrave as portrayed by David Tennant
Purple Man as he appeared in Marvel Comics
A fan's inspired rendition of Tennant as Purple Man
My custom Purple Man is built on an original Type 2 body with hands painted purple; jacket, pants, and shirt are originally white from CTVT and dyed various shades of purple; white CTVT shoes painted purple; head is an enlargement of a David Tennant "Dr. Who" head with hair re-sculpted to look more like the style presented in "Jessica Jones".
I hope you enjoy my customs as much as I do, and, as always, thanks for looking!
Peace, Love, and Megos!
