I awoke to sad news this morning that one of the biggest icons from my youth, Charlton Heston had passed away. If you're a child of the 70's you couldn't escape Charlton Heston's influence, he was Taylor, The Omega Man, Ben Hur. He was the reason this past Easter my wife and I channel surfed until we found the Ten Commandments.

I loved this guy, I even read his book "The Actor's Life" which is a diary of his life up until the mid seventies. In it, he describes going to see "Deep Throat" and his distaste for it, it's possibly the funniest thing I have ever read.

I'll miss you Chuck and I'll never forget that Soylent Green is People.

I also was very saddened by this news, Recently, in class one of my students asked who my favorite actor was. I said Heston and then asked "who's that"? Man I was disappointed. Only 2 kids knew who he was. Very disappointing.

Very sad news. I was just watching "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" last night, wishing Mr. Heston had taken a bigger role in that one. So many great movies. He will be missed.

A great loss no matter if you agreed with his off screen opinions or not.

Chuck was a larger than life figure. He just has a presence in any film he was in. I will miss him and will honor his memory by continuing to watch his films and enjoy his performances.

I was always proud to say "Charlton Heston is my President" when he was Prez of the NRA. He was a prime example of a man who refuse to let his convictions take a back seat even if it meant a reduction in his public career.

I am glad that the Media has not ignored his support of Dr king (it was not a popular thin in the early 60's so even at the height of his career he was willing to risk it all for what he believed). I complex man who will be missed.

He was a great actor. I remember seeing Beneath the Planet of the Apes and The Omega Man first run in theaters as a young child. The NRA also lost a great spokesman.

Very sad, but I'd rather smile at the thought that Chuck is now getting to meet the real Moses.

See you later, Mr. Heston...
