I am Dracula.... (yes Virginia, another Lugosiesque Dracula)

3-4 years ago I did a Mego movie Frankenstein

    http://megomuseum.com/albums/Mego73/...moviefrank.jpg

and always meant to do more monsters (especially the big 5 in my mind Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Mummy and Creature)

Well, finally I got to Dracula.

Made possible, first and foremost by a contribution of a Bela Lugosi head by Matt Jaycox (Matt also provided me the surplus Sideshow Frankenstein head for the Mego Frankenstein)and another contribution of a Flatt World Dracula suit by a museum member that I am ashamed to say I forgot the name of (all his PM's are deleted) if you see this, speak up pal and thanks.

Anyway, my goal was to make a 1970's style Dracula. When I was a kid and found my lone Mad Monster Mummy in a corner drug store, in my minds eye, the Dracula and Frankenstein I wished were also available in that drug store looked much like the custom ones I made here (the little art cameos at the side of the box beared this out, since Grey Morrow based his art on the early, more movie influenced sculpts).

I didn't get a Frankie and Dracula until I was a collector and I love them to death but the kid inside of me still wanted Universal inspired versions.

So, with the Bela head gotten, the first thing to do was to add fangs. No self respecting 1970's Dracula/Vampire figure would not show fangs. Now, we all know that Bela Lugosi never showed fangs when he played vampires and any modern Lugosi sculpt reflects this.

Anyway, I was able to sculpy up acceptable fangs and breathed a sigh of relief. I also sculpied up a more pronouced widow's peak

I painted him up with a grayish green (actually, it was blue added to light flesh color).

I used a shading flesh color to color the lips and give him the rings under the eyes.

I wanted to omit the vest and make a dumbed down pendant (maybe a sticker) because it would be "Megoesqe" but when I put the Flatt outfit together... it just looked to good to mess with so lets just say that Mego splurged on Dracula and pretend that pendant is gold tone plated plastic.

The cape is from CTVT Grandpa Munster (Flatt Worlds Dracula cape is gray lined which is historically accurate but not 1970's kid toy accurate). I taped in some craft wire to the collar so the cape would clamp onto the neck.

I had the box ready ever since Frankenstein but ended up reworking the Dracula art (and I'm not entirely satisfied and might tinker with it again) to reflect the actual figure all while trying to make sure it was done in at least a half baked Grey Morrow style.

The Lugosi likeness is muted a bit with the fangs but I think that works to help make it look 1970's.

Anyway, I think the bloodsucker is finally ready for prime time. Hope you like him.

Impressive! The custom is outstanding and so is the box you made!

Nice. My first attempt only involved assembling parts!

I've got to alter his suit and find something other than Grampa Munsters cross for his neck!

          Who did your box?

If the member that gave me a Flatt suit chimes him maybe he has one or 2 outfits left for you. From what I hear he got a few Flatt Draculas at a discount rate which enabled him to be generous enough to let me have one.

Nice work. Good to see another figure from you to go inside your custom packaging. I like the colors you chose in your paints.

I donated the flatt Drac suit. If anyone wants one I have at least 3 left. Free, just PM me. In addition, I have the email (or look up and contact "latoymaker" on ebay) for the guy that made Flatt's dracula. Apparently Flatt never paid him and he is sitting on a warehouse full of them. $10 each I think. He'd like to move them out (understandably), they come 8 to a case and he will probably hook up bulk buyers.

I already have a proper Flatt Dracula but might want to pick up 1 or 2 more at that price.
