I have at least one hundred figures remaining on my custom "want list"
:terror:

There are many different factors that go into how a new character is
chosen and ends up on my shelf.
:juggleyes_y::googly::juggleyes_y:

TARANTULA --even tho I never knew the character as a child, intrigues me
because of his decent visibility DURING the years I was a child---
in Spider-Man comicbooks---and merch---such as a record---and
Presto Magix

:drool_y:

I mentioned this character to customizer Ed Nagy---he saw pics of
TARANTULA and took to his interesting costume design like a fly
to a web--- ;)

And here he is:

Thanks Ed!

I think he's just beautiful. (okay--not just the fig---Ed too) :hello:

I hope you guys here enjoy TARANTULA too--- Ed has been very busy
---but I want to give him his props here at the MM with
a thread or two :wink_y:

Maybe he'll stop by the thread (hee-hee) :smiley12:

Best---- Hugh

Couple of weeks ago I didn't even know this guy and now I see a second custom of him.
Very impressive Tarantula, Ed Nagy really is a wizard with those silk screened suits.
How many Nagy customs does this make for you now, Hugh?

Mar 30, '08, 4:00 AM
Thomas, good question---been a while since I "tallied" ---

Ed has made me many customs since 2000/2001 when I met him
thru Ebay---he's helped me "upgrade" just a few of my customs

---but most of them were "Ed Nagy originals" from scratch---

The definitive list is this (I think):

ELEKTRA, STORM, SPIDER-WOMAN, MOLE MAN, WASP, SHE HULK, BEAST,
RA'S AL GUHL, FISHERMAN, METALLO, PARASITE, TOP, WEATHER WIZARD,
PIED PIPER, CAPT. BOOMERANG, TRICKSTER, GRODD, TOYMAN, BRAINIAC,
SCARECROW, POISON IVY, CAPT. COLD, CREEPER, MAN-BAT, FELIX FAUST,
MATTER MASTER, STAR SAPPHIRE, ANGLE MAN, MERLYN THE ARCHER,
BLACK ADAM, SHARK, KILLER MOTH, WOOZY WINKS, COPPERHEAD, HUNTRESS,
RED TORNADO, ZATANNA, MARTIAN MANHUNTER, ZAN & JAYNA (GLEEK),
ATOM, PLASTIC MAN, BLACK CANARY, ELONGATED MAN, METAMORPHO,
BLACK LIGHTNING, BLACK VULCAN, SAMURAI, MANDARIN, LEADER, LOKI,
DORMAMMU, MEPHISTO, ELECTRO, ICEMAN, FIRESTAR, DR. SIVANA,
VULTURE, SANDMAN, KRAVEN THE HUNTER

So, its about 63 including the two new ones Thomas---

Ed had made my dreams come true and has stuck by me even in my most
impatient and "picky behavior" times.

I only hope that he knows/feels HALF my appreciation---because it is virtually limitless

I apologize if this is taking my own thread offtopic---but I relish ANY opportunity to
share with you all (and Ed) my appreciation....over 60 killer customs...wow
(I can hardly believe it myself) :)

Thanks all.

Hey Thunderbolt you are right, Hugh's list of wanted customs could keep a guy locked in a room for years.LOL... I wish that thats what I had been doing though, truth is there just hasn't been time for megoing until just recently. Now I'm lucky to get to read posts and look at what has been happening, but finding time to post isn't easy. I wanted to thank Hugh for posting this one and the Clayface. and thank everyone for the great comments.
Here's to finding more time soon!

Also, in the list Hugh credits me with APACHE CHIEF, that's not one I remember doing though.
I may be wrong Hugh, but I think someone else deserves the credit for that one.

You're right Ed---I just plugged AC in with the rest of the HB SFs without
thinking----so I am gonna re-edit that glorious list---

Still over 60 though ---NOT too shabby---

Cool for stopping by Ed----rock on :)

Thread from the dead, lol

WOW! FREAKING AWESOME, MAN. VERY, nice. I notice the slight touches, like how the boots have both blue and black, like they inked/colorized him back in the day.

I did a Famous Covers version years ago (I did a whole mess of obscure villains) but sold it along with all of the other FC customs I did.

I'm getting the bug to start doing custom Megos now that Mattel's Retro-Action line is out there...

Do you have a shot of your collection perhaps in the Toyroom? OR a link to the thread if so?

Great figure, old thread or not. What's funny is that I have the exact same relationship to the character; never read any story he was in, but saw the character in ads and thought he looked bad ash. Was surprised to eventually find out he wasn't a permanent arch-villain for Spidey.

Good thoughts for ya with your custom endeavors!

....what a treat it was to find this "very Ed" thread bumped this morning...

...ladies & gents, it's been the longest break that Ed's taken in the SUPERHERO genre (BTW...great recent monsters again, Ed!)...

BUT.... Ed's been hard at work on a few comic costumed characters
including TWO "Marvel U" characters that I'm thinking of particularly,
that I just know will blow away the Mego-era superhero fans!

Cool TARANTULA...still love, love, LOVE it after about two years later
and a "sculpty to vinyl" switch for the back of the headband!

Bless!

Thanks for the interest, man!

Many custom figure photo updates needed
in that linked "toy room" thread of mine,
...still... that thread is about one year newer
than THIS thread---ha :) ...
....and WILL be in the (hopefully near) future edited to a newer era!:cool_y::heart:

I don't think I have any pics left... it was nearly ten years ago when I did them. Just the other day I tried Google searches but came up short. I did Nova, Luke Cage, Absorbing Man, loads of them. My hero at the time was Nick in the U.K. who did a bazillion custom FCs, all 100% awesome! I really loved doing obscure characters like Morbius, Firebrand, Blizzard, The Jackal, Tarantula, Carrion... I had a total blast. My wife helped big time, sewing outfits based on materials I sourced. I did the sculpting work. I know I submitted all kinds of pics to custom FC galleries back then. Is there a popular Famous Covers custom gallery that I may not be aware of that is still running? Maybe someone still has pics of them, I have no idea.

You are definitely one of the best customizers here in the MEGO community.
Any new project in mind or in the works right now?
