    I don't understand these animal psychologists…

So much fun! Thank you NECA!

    Notes:
    • body is black
    • rifle detail is excellent & trigger finger fits well
    • strap is a bit long, but can easily be resized
    • full purple undershirt
    • the dirt-effect pigment on clothes is minimal, at least on this one
    • head sculpt & eyes are just so damn good
    • velcro gantlets are a great solution
    • lots of customizing potential

… let the army building begin!

          I think that's a home-made bandolier... (But correct me if I'm wrong Confessional )

          Also, a couple of questions:

          1) Is the purple as "shiny" in real as it looks on my monitor?

          2) If possible, could you please take (and post) a photo of him without the vest, just showing him in his pants and undershirt? Thanks!

As I posted in the other thread (Modern Toys), I ordered directly from Neca via ebay. Superfast shipping and obviously way before any other outlet has them. This has been and will continue to be a way to buy Apes even if not available at TRU going forward.

The bando is a just a placeholder until I pull out the leather and make one to better match his intensity… had to check the proportions and length.

The purple is indeed shiny, a bit on the flashy side, and thin. I've come to like the color tho. Fortunately the way the clothing is made, you could replace them with a material of your choice without too much effort. You could even dye a pair of OG Zaius pants and get a more *authentic look.

We can nick pick the less-than-perfect features, and there are a few, but just look at him in comparison any other Soldier (except HT) and it's clear this is one great Ape!

We're all aware that critiquing toys is part of the MM and all collector groups, but as a non-WGSH collector I'm more than happy to enjoy all that is right with NECA's efforts. Many of you have hundreds of choices to buy Batman, Spiderman, etc., but in POTA pop culture good toys are far and much fewer between.

NECA's Taylor and this Soldier, and their 6" lines have all been quality products made by enthusiastic and talented fans of the genre, at reasonable prices. It will really suck when it ends, so until then I'm freakin' Going Ape!

              Looks ok to me.
The shiny material will have to go (why they chose this, instead of the prototype material is beyond me), and a bandolier added.
Almost finished my Taylor with a whole new flight suit, so I can just keep on going with the needle and thread...

                    Oh, man, that's amazing.

Can you give a little lesson on how you made the bandolier? It looks absolutely perfect!

Love the extra pieces, like the club and pole. I have two soldiers pre-ordered, so it'll be fun to make them a little different from each other.

How is the paint job on the head and boots?
From original photos, it seemed that the skin had a bit more shading, and the boots looked weathered and scuffed.

^^ Yes, they have weathering… these are supposed to be foot troops and calvary with dirt effects.

Black boots with gray paint, and brown paint near the bottoms. Gray/Brown paint on the arms and legs too.

Head also has a blend of colors, with the face having a bit more brown. If you plan on customizing, you'll get lots of mileage on re-painting the heads to make each look different.

Yep, that's what I had in mind, making each soldier a bit different, both in skin tone and the cloth fabric.
I'm no Ape expert: did the soldiers have different shades of clothes?

Great looking Ape. Looks even better with the changes and additions you made. I have to get one of these ordered.
