    1974 Chemtoy Catalog

Chemtoy was one of America's premiere producer of lower cost novelties and Rack Toys during the 60s and 70s.

Their offering for 1974 was a fun mix of generic staples like bubbles, paddle balls, toy guns that you can still find to this day.

On the licensing side they had everything from Batman to the Groovie Goolies, it's good group of old friends.

Man, some great stuff there. Had I known those Groovie Goolies and Fat Albert figurines existed, I'd have gone nuts to find them. I guess the Superman and Batman figures were from a different year? Those things are butt-ugly, but I love them.

I loved the Groovie Goolies as a kid. I use to grab them at the local drug store where I would perform my monthly ritual of picking up comics off the spin rack. I was thrilled to get a complete set in my collection years ago for next to nothing. I think I spent $30 for an entire set. Love them.

I've just always loved the name Chemtoy. It conjures up the smell of cheap plastic decomposing into a noxious puddle of smelly goop.

The Superman image on the scissors package, where he is punching, is lifted from an ad for the Aurora model kit, drawn by Curt Swan. I don't know why I know that, I just do.

I remember seeing the Superman film strip viewer on a peg in the 1970s while on a road trip but never got one.
