More Superheroes and Monsters At Megolike.com

Lots of new things to see at Megolike.com starting with a new page devoted to France's Ceji Arbois and their uber cool line of Battle of the Planets (or as they knew it La Baitalle De Planetes ) action figures.

Sadly, these guys are rare due to their use of a SuperJoe body, which if you didn't know, distintegrates over a long period of time.

Over in the Lincoln International section, we have some additions in terms of solid boxes for the Monsters.

Also added is the famous "Monsters VS The Superheroes" spread from the 1976 Wards catalog when Galoob carried the Monsters line.

Finally in the Unknown Manufacturers section, there are four new Mexican knock off Mego figures.

These crude little guys can barely stand up but they have a certain charm to them that's hard to resist, like some bad piece of folk art.

If you have additions to Megolike.com, drop Lou a line on the site.

Mego at the 1975 UK Toyfair

At the 1975 US Toy Fair, Mego was making waves with it's new product lines and their fantastic launch party for their Wizard of Oz line. In the UK however, Mego had no toyfair presence other than the few companies that had picked up their lines for distribution, which resulted in a quieter presence. A

In 1975, the number one toyline in the UK (As voted by retailers) is Palitoy's Action Man with Pedigree's Sindy following a close second.

This article about Louis Marx mentions their new line of King Arthur and his Knights, what we all know to be the "World's Greatest Super Knights". Marx didn't create their own packaging, just merely put a sticker on the front window of the box, which are occasionally seen on the secondary market. What's curious is the mention that is a line of four figures and doesn't mention Launcelot, a journalistic error or did Louis Marx drop him from the line?

There is no mention of Superheroes, Planet of the Apes or any other Mego Lines in the 1975 Toyfair Highlights page but on the very last page of the magazine, we find a rather quick mention of Bradgates new "Startrek" line of action figures.

Palitoy (owner of Bradgate) would run with Star Trek for another two years, expanding into the Aliens.

Mego of the Day; Grandma Walton

Mego of the Day for Thursday is the first female Mego of the Day, so it seemed fitting to have the eldest character in the Mego-verse (next to Doctor Who) that matriarch of the mountain folk, Ma Walton!

Did you have a Ma Walton as a kid? If so why? Is this the first time you've heard mention of it? Is it on your wantlist? Does it interest you?

Mego of the Day: Chopper From Starsky and Hutch

Mego of the Day for Tuesday is the generic bad guy to TV's Supercop Duo Starsky and Hutch, an underrated gem of an action figure. If you didn't have him, there would be much for the cops to do. An interesting bit of trivia is that Chopper was sculpted by Ken Sheller and was never meant to have that painted on Hobo beard. Without Chopper takes on a more menacing appearance whcih was orginally intended....

Did you have a Chopper as a kid? Is this the first time you've heard mention of it? Is it on your wantlist? Does it interest you?

Mego of the Day: Franz Beckenbauer

Mego of the Day for Monday is Soccer Legend Franz Beckenbauer, a German exclusive most of us didn't know existed until we picked up John Bonavita's landmark publication Mego Action Figure Toys. Franz shares the same scale as Mego's other well known sports celebrity Muhamad Ali.

Obviously not a lot of us had a Franz Beckenbauer doll as a kid but there is still lots to discuss. Is this the first time you've heard mention of it? Is it on your wantlist? Does it interest you?

More Mego Spotting on the Venture Brothers

Bill McFarland mentioned this on the boards the other day, in a recent episode of the Venture Brothers one can see a vintage bit of Team Venture merchandising in the"Action Man Dune Buggy" which looks vaguely familiar.

Great eye Bill! and thanks to the good people at Astro Base Go for this fun item.

Some fine Mego Memories

mego batmobile

Chris Flagg sent in this happy memory from Christmas 1974, he really hit the jack pot that year with the Mego Batcave playset, Batcycle, Batmobile and Batcopter. What more could a kid ask for?

Thanks Chris! Looks like the folks did a bit of catalog shopping as evidenced by this 1974 JC Penney spread:

Enjoy previous Mego Memories at the Megomuseum, Part 1 and Part 2 are full of vintage coolness. Got a pic to donate? Send it on down!

Dinah-Mite's Fun Fashions!

A neat addition to the Mego Museum's Dinah-Mite Gallery today. It's a window boxed gift comprised of Dinah and three fashions. Except for the Folk Singer set, the other two fashions are from a series known as the "New Fashions". That would date this set as having a 1975 release, if only Mego had done the same things for Action Jackson.....drool......

We have new customizer spotlight for August, this month it's Dana Shaw, come check out some of his 8" handiwork. (that sounds dirty but it shouldn't)
